Heading up Highway 55 toward Banks today, a truck tossed up a rock and bounced it off of my windshield. Very annoying.

I'm wondering if I can even get a proper replacement windshield. They look harder to replace than the one in my Escape which got replaced last year. And I'm wondering if they'll still have the little QR code up by the mirror and all that.

Same thing happened to us on our way to Big Bend. Safelite got an OEM windshield, installed and calibrated the camera. You have to call them directly though, they won't offer OEM over the internet appointments. It took a couple of weeks for them to get it in.

2 windshields in a year… that sucks. I drive quite a ways back from all this Treasure Valley traffic anymore. Can’t tell you how many times I ve seen gravel trucks bouncing down the freeway and dropping rocks as they go. Intersections even have gravel laying all over them from trucks being overloaded.

Growth isn’t as great as people make it sound.
Good luck getting your windshield replaced Scott.

If I recall correctly the QR code just pulls up a text production date/time, so it's not a huge loss.

Not looking forward to my first broken windshield being that I have my windshield tinted ceramic for heat reasons.

Safelite came and installed a new windshield on my Bronco today. It's identical to the one that they removed. The little box with the camera was already attached and the metal piece that the rear view mirror attaches to was also on there. They just loosened those parts from the old one and stuck them back on the new one. The only thing they had to remove from the old windshield was my Idaho State Parks sticker.

We had to drive a few miles to recalibrate the camera before the installation was complete. It detected a camera fault when first started, which was expected. The glass guy attached some electronics to a diagnostic port to make it all happen. So the next time I get too close to somebody about to turn ahead of me, it can beep at me and maybe hit the brakes, like it has done a couple of times in the past. ;)

I'm happy to have a new OEM windshield. Don't know what I can do differently to keep from having this happen again, though.
