Rock chips - 4 in one trip

I don’t deny that tailgating can cause rock chips, however, for me it’s oncoming vehicles. Even with slowing down, we have stretches of highway or roads that have nothing but gravel on it because of the wonky weather. It’s typically -30c here in winter and we don’t need the gravel. The last decade has changed that and we will get minus single digits On occasion which has the city put down gravel for traction

Yes gloss black guard. Blends in perfectly so most can't even tell it is installed.

I’ll probably catch hell for this opinion, but if you don’t tailgate, you probably won’t get rock chips. My son has a performance car with a windshield that’s laid-back dramatically compared to a bronco. He tailgates all the time and he gets rock chips. I keep my distance from other vehicles and I’ve never had a rock chip in decades of driving. As I drive down the interstate on a regular basis, I constantly see people right on somebody’s tail in front of them. It drives me crazy. And it’s so unnecessary. I have my adaptive cruise set to the furthest distance available, and I still feel like I’m too close to the vehicle in front of me. Old man rant over a sorry to caused aggravation to many.

Not gonna lie, sometimes I follow too closely on the 2 lane roads because I want to pass. It's risky to be behind anyone in the winter even if you lay way back. There is so much sand in use below -20 because salt doesn't work. It's not nice fine sand, more like screened pit run. Dirty, full of rocks and pretty nasty. Welcome to northern Alberta...
I also got 2 rock chips at once this trip, minding my own business, in the slow lane when a vehicle passed me so there's no good strategy to avoid rock chips up here. I've become mostly proficient at fixing rock chips with supplies from Amazon although cracks are almost unrepairable. These new windshields crack so easily. Ford glass seems more prone than my Chevrolet 3500.

I've gotten rocks hit my windshield with no other cars to be seen (in the country). They fall from the sky! But yeah, if someone tailgates, they should expect the Spanish Inquisition, and some rocks chips to boot.
