So I'm looking at two options. Base (hoss1) + SAS (essentially hoss2?) or Badlands (hoss2) w/o SAS. Starting to go down the rabbit hole. Either way they both seem to have the same axles, locking carriers and 4.7 rears. I dont care about quick disconnects.

Im wondering about ride height between the two. Im not too concerned with the differences between hoss systems with or without Sasquatch packages yet (as far as I can tell its just the dampening rates of the shocks and maybe springs?), any changes I want with the suspension I can do myself. I would look at manufacturer info, but I dont have access for the next week.

Ride height will be within 1/2" of each other (if you ignore the tires themselves).

Sasquatch
  • HOSS 2.0
  • 4.70 gearing
  • Front & Rear lockers
  • Axles
    • M210 Front half-shafts
    • M220 rear axle
Badlands
  • HOSS 2.0
  • Gearing
    • Automatic trans: 4.46
    • Manual trans: 4.70
  • Front & rear lockers
    • M210 front half-shafts
    • M220 rear axle
  • Front stabilizer bar disconnect

Okay, so basically the same except for the disconnect which I could do with a wrench on a few minutes.

So the Sas has the HOSS2 suspension? Why is Fords website not clear on that. I did notice the price difference of sas on bl compared to base. I guess that difference is in the tires and wheels then?

SAS will be about 1/2" higher than Badlands. But Badlands will have that 1/2" back in additional articulation. The both run Bilsteins, just have a slightly different ride height adjustment (and the reservoirs are mounted a bit different)

I don't know if you can still get the HOSS 3 Fox system that was in the Wildtraks. That was a serious upgrade to Hoss 2.

Badlands has not just the disconnect, but also full skidplates and rock rails, plus the mid package is included. There may be more I missed.

I have both of those - 25 Base SAS and 25 Badlands non-SAS. I couldn't decide either so I just got both.
Badlands has no rear stabilizer bar. Base SAS has a rear stabilizer bar.
SAS is higher by 1 inch, I've measured that, but that include tires. So the actual suspension heights should be the same.
If you decide to measure for yourself, check side-to-side, because some are not even. My Badlands right rear is a full 1" higher than the left side.

Of course there is the other stuff, but I'm primarily looking at suspension. I can add skids later. I honestly dont want all the collision detection stuff and wish they had a model without power accessories. Its why I'm comparing the Base+SAS and Badlands.

Less is more to me, its why I currently have a Wrangler Sport. But I'm probably looking at another 2 or mores weeks of downtime within 4k miles. Over a month of in shop repair times in 4k miles... otherwise I wouldn't be looking at Broncos. 2 o2 sensors, ipc recall and pcm programming last time. This time its looking like o2 sensors again and a failing throwout bearing. I'll know tomorrow for sure, ... hopefully, it'll be the make or break.

If you're looking mostly at suspension, go with the Base. There are no significant differences.

Speaking of 'less is more' the climate controls on the Base are so much better, just simple knobs and indicator lights, it gives instant driver feedback. Badlands is overcomplicated, and you have to use the knobs *and* display panel to set things, it's distracting and not well designed IMO.

You can now order a Badlands Bronco with the standard package—same equipment as the Base Bronco (info here). That change was made a few weeks ago—Ford just hasn't updated the website yet.
