Relay Wiring Sanity Check

Hi guys, I'm pretty new to the mods & wiring game and just looking for a sanity check before I actually start connecting things together and short/blow something.

I bought a pair of KC Apollos on marketplace that are connected to a KC3300 relay. There are 4 wires coming out of the relay (see pics) - yellow, black, green, and white. According to their diagram, the yellow needs to be connected to the battery, the black goes to ground, and the white goes to the upfitter switch. I am using the factory upfitters and the harness didn't come with the on/off switch regardless.

My understanding is that the yellow needs to be connected to an add a fuse (20A) which then needs to go to the fuse box (i was planning to use #9, ignition coils for this). The white and green need to be spliced together to the upfitter wire (planning to use #4, brown wire), and then the black gets grounded on the vehicle. Is this correct?

You shouldn't have to use the white wire. yellow to battery, red to the positive side of the lights, black to ground, and green to your upfitter wire.

Watch this video from KC, it explains the entire process. You don't need most of the harness including the relay. The video tells you where to cut the harness. I followed these instructions exactly, no issues with my 6" Apollo's.



Each light has 2 wires, one goes to ground, the other the the wires Ford provided for the AUX switch.

White wire is only if you have an external switch. You are using an upfitter switch, so it already has power wired for you. Just tape the white and brown wires off someplace neatly and leave them both unhooked.

Take the yellow straight to the battery (via a fuse) - do not take it to your fusebox. I'd recommend a Blue Sea Systems or Bussman In-Line fuse holder.

Add-a-tap to the fuse box (for lights this big) would be if you weren't using an upfitter switch and only wanted the light to power with ACC power (or automatically turn on with something) - and you wouldn't run the yellow there, you'd run your switch (the white wire). Upfitter handles that part for you too.
