I like the adjustability/brightness of the Putco luminix bronco front lit emblem but I prefer the look of the Oracle matte black lettering with the more backlit style. Has anyone applied a separate black overlay on top of the Putco emblem? I was looking to do that instead of going the Oracle route as black lettering is a requirement. Does anyone have pictures / video of this setup? And what sort of overlay works best? I was looking at TufSkinz. Thank you.

I have the Putco lights installed and love them. They are very bright and look great. I have not put vinyl over them but I'd imagine that you could. If you were going to go through the trouble to cover up the selling feature (the brightness) of the Putco ones I'd imagine you'd just be better off getting the Oracle ones. I think you'd save some money going that route as well. If money isn't an issue I think Putco's are probably a more quality option.

We’ve seen a few people experiment with overlays on front lit emblems, but one thing to be aware of is that most overlays (including thicker vinyls like TufSkinz) will noticeably reduce brightness and can create uneven light diffusion over time, especially on front-lit designs where the light has to pass through the face.

That’s actually why our Bronco emblem was designed with matte black lettering and a backlit halo style from the start. It keeps the blacked-out look you’re after without sacrificing light output or clarity. If adjustability is your main concern, that’s totally valid! Different systems prioritize different things. Just wanted to flag that layering an overlay on a front-lit emblem can be a bit of a gamble long-term.

I also went with the Putco. Easy install and option to set white or amber or high amber. Very happy with it. I ordered the matte black overlays too to see if I like the look... coming soon.

Decided to hold off on the black overlays for now. The putco emblem with the amber looks too clean as is.

Thanks man. That’s a nice look with the rest of your grille. What overlay did you go with?
No problem. $15.99 on ebay
Ebay link
The Putco letters are pretty much the same size as the stock grille letters, maybe a hair smaller which allows for a little more light to shine.

It Looks great against the black grille. I've thought about going matte or satin black on mine.

I think the grey grille with the black lettering looks unique, along with the rest of your setup.
