Painted Hard Top Fitment

As I am looking for an another vehicle I am noticing quite a variation in the way that the painted hard top fits on the rear quarter panel. I see some where the top sits relatively level and others where the top towards the rear passenger door has a much larger gap. I am attaching a photo.

On my last one the service department said this was normal and there wasn’t anything they could do about it. Does anyone know what is causing this variation? Has anyone been successful in getting the fitment better?

The angle here between the metal body and composite roof can absolutely vary a lot.

I too have seem them very close to or at 0 degrees and others are very visibly different than 0 degrees. Some are a small number and others a fairly large number of degrees. I'm pretty certain when they are not flat, the gap is always larger closer to the front of the vehicle.

Unfortunately, mine is not 0 degrees and is noticeable. It was that way both before and after I had my entire top replaced under warranty for core bleed through. Luckily, I've not had and noise or leak issues, so for me it seems largely cosmetic.

Not painted, but my MIC top on 21 2dr was nearly perfect about 1/4” gap on both sides, but my 23 4dr varies….one side about 1/4” gap other side varies from about 1/4” - to a little over 3/8”. No wind or water leaks, like swamp2 said, just some variations. Have loosened and removed to try to get it even but there is nothing to adjust.

Yes, indeed, this gap on the two sides of the vehicle, left to right, can also appear different...
