Order question

I placed a reservation in late November for a Badlands Bronco. I received an email from Ford Motor Company today. 3/17, that said it is time to place my order if I haven't already. It says I have until March 19th to finalize my order, and then my Bronco will be ready by May 2021. I am surprised to only receive less than 2 days notice to get this done. I have heard nothing from the dealership (other than the very initial email I was sent in November after I placed my order). Is this normal to get such short notice? I was actually hoping that I was farther down the queue (I placed my order relatively late in the game) and that my order would roll over into 2022 so that I could get the white hard top. I was also considering switching dealerships. Does this mean that I am going to lose my place in queue since I cannot place an order for what I want yet since the white hard top will not be an option until 2022? And advice or experience would be greatly appreciated. I guess I don't have much time to do something before I lose my reservation.

You now need to place the actual order with your dealer by 3/19 (for MY21 units), but your reservation date is virtually guaranteed to be a MY22 unit. It will not hurt to order now, but you will still be in line either way, and since you want a white top, that wasn't happening in MY21 anyway.

The email should say you will get a delivery window in May, in other words an estimate of when you will get it, not the Bronco itself. Either way your dealer should have been guiding you on this process, they are the ones who dropped the ball. You'll be in a '22 for sure.

Yes, I understand that I was likely going to get a 2022. Which is what I want anyway since I want a white top. Confused about a couple of things because I was under the impression that the dealership was supposed to have contacted me in January. I thought maybe there was a Ford delay but I can see now that the dealership I chose just failed to contact me like they said they would when it was time to order. My fear of ordering now is that I will get stuck with whatever top I have to put in for the order. When you say I will be in line either way, are you saying whether or not I place my order by 3/19 my reservation will still be in place? Thank you!

Thank you! That is becoming clear. It definitely makes the decision to switch dealerships a lot easier. So basically I am safe to order my bronco with a standard top and I should be safe to change my top order in 2022? Kinda scary to do that but don't want to lose my place.

Orders in by 3/19 have a chance of being built in the Q1. You're place in line for builds more closely determined by your reservation time stamp not when you convert. Dealers however want people to convert because the more converted the higher their allocation of 21MY.

Order at your convenience, just make sure your order priority code is 99 (do not build). As long as you don't have a VIN you can change your order, even after you have a converted. And you won't have a VIN assigned to a 99 priority code.

Thank you! That is very helpful. So are you saying that nothing really happens if I let the March 19th deadline come and go? And by putting code 99 in I hold my reservation but do not chance a vehicle being built without the options I want? This is quite the process but I am sure it will be worth it. Thank you!

Correct - converting before March 19th is really only for those going for 21MY.

Your dealer submits an order w/ a 99 code, then Ford manufacturing ignores it. Ford announces 22MY options then you can go in and change it.

Personally I would wait till 22MY options get announced before ordering. It's much easier to change dealers if it's just a reservation and NOT a converted order. This way it's much easier for you to shop around and make sure there's no pricing funny business with 22MY/your dealer.

I am in the same boat. My dealer told me not worry about it as I will def get a 2022.

I received the same email from Ford to place my order. I BET they are only doing this so they can see what they should expect in terms of demand in 2022 .. trims and options.

You are probably right. Seems more effective to tell people to either convert their reservations to an order or if you are waiting on a MY2022 answer a poll about options and trims. Because otherwise they are going to get orders placed that aren't going to accurately tell them what 2022 customers are really holding out for. But Ford didn't ask my opinon, lol
