I am super excited to be a part of this group and learn from everyone. I just purchased an azure gray 2025 Bronco OB last week. My wife does not care much about cars, but she loved the Bronco when she saw it. She has already driven it more than I have.

My main purpose for having the Bronco is to take the doors and roof off and drive around by myself for some peace and quiet (I have three daughters so I need that🤣). My oldest daughter who's nowhere close to driving age has decided she wants the Bronco for her first car.

I have the following questions:

  1. This thing will spend more time on road than off. If I do go off-road (dirt roads with leaves, limbs, maybe some hidden rocks) should I add skid plate/bash plates/modular bumper? It has the plastic bumper right now, but it seems sturdy.

  2. In the same vein; I'm not too worried and it's too late now, but should I have been looking for an Outer Banks with a rear locker? I have a minimal understanding of what it does. We looked at the Badlands and SAS but we figured those were overkill, even though they look awesome. I doubt I would ever need the rear locker but thought I would ask.

With all of that being said, we are looking at buying some property that will require a four-wheel-drive vehicle to get up a steep gravel driveway.

On a side note, I'm already getting flogged for it being a mall crawler, but I love the OB and look forward to learning more from this group.

I will add some pictures of it once the weather clears up here in East Tennessee in the next few days.

Sounds like from your driving habits and expectations, you’ve purchased the right one. If it’s just the looks and open air experience you were looking for, you’re in the right seat

When you find yourself wanting to get a little more brave off-road you’ll quickly find the benefits of a locker, which does exactly what it says, and locks the rear wheels together so they turn the same speed and receive the same amount of power regardless of traction or lack of traction. In the future if you desire it’s not all that hard or expensive to add a locker whether you want to go with an electric, air, or auto mechanical locker, which all have their own benefits, drawbacks and install difficulty levels.
