Got out to visit my son and enjoy fall colors in the upper peninsula of Michigan this past weekend. So many things to see and do up there. Each time I try to find something new. We managed two firsts this trip.
We visited Gay Michigan, the mine ruins, and stamp sands. Essentially a large pile of mined rock that has been pulverized and dumped onto the shore of Lake Superior. Fun to explore and the bronco did great. Only two other vehicles within view. The clouds didn't cooperate for us but the view was still fantastic. Should have stayed a little longer.
On our way back we also stopped at Crisp Point Lighthouse. It's about an hour north of Newberry. A bit west of Whitefish Point. There is a seasonal county road but we took the back country rout in our offroad appt (OnX Offroad). The route uses a number of ORV trails that were quite nice. I didn't take many pictures. Just enjoyed the ride out and the lighthouse. We ended up staying until almost dark and took the county road back. I'll say that the trails were better in many ways.
Stopping at the Soo Locks was not new and didn't require a Bronco. It was still a nice stop. In the past we have only seen smaller ships pass through. This time there were two large ships in the locks at the same time. It's impressive to see.
