A simple fix (from a jeep guy)- make sure you have rock rails or metal rails on your bronco. Because of the height and location, normal cars can’t ding you when they open their doors. They hit the rail on the bottom first and chip their own paint.

Now, you can’t do anything about people sliding back and forth between vehicles, but I rarely worry about scratches from parking. Besides, aren’t Broncos supposed to see some non-pavement action? In the sport bike world you get made fun of for having “chicken strips” (too much tread on the sides of your tires- indicating you don’t corner hard). I figure a few scratches and dents show it lived a little.
Exactly this, rock rails! Not a single door ding on my FJ.

Do the rock rails extend far enough out to protect against? The doors on the Bronco seem to extend further out

I think part of the anxiety is the fact that parts are rare, and glass i expensive too.
The old adage of I don't worry thats what insurance is for doesn't apply.

Throw on a set of side steps or real rock rails that extend beyond the door. Car doors will hit the step/rail and not the Bronco body. That takes care of the majority of vehicles. Then you only need to worry about tall trucks where the door is above the step/rail.

When I learned windshield replacements run $900-ish... all of the sudden the $1000 no-dedictible windshield insurance was a no brainer. Living in the PNW & a flat, vertical windshield are a lethal combo. By the time I need that first new windshield, I've about broken even - and it's all financed in the purchase price. After that, they're pretty much free. I don't see how that's a good business model, but definitely anxiety-reducing for me.

I took my Bronco out to the Cascades on Day 3 of ownership. Following another Sasquatch off the trail and back onto the highway, I became victim of his gravel-grabbing, gravel-flinging Goodyear 35s. 🤦‍♂️ At about 40 mph, a medium-sized piece of gravel went from his tire - to my hood (dent/paint chip) - to my windshield (small impact scar). 😬

Two lessons learned.
1. Never, ever follow a SAS Bronco off the trail without giving it a 500ft gravel fly-zone buffer.

2. While painful to see noticeable hood and windshield damage on a 3 day-old 250 mile Bronco... the fact it came from another Bronco - the first time she was out doing Bronco things - made it a lot easier to digest. Everything that comes after that comes with a lot less anxiety... lol

On the test drive when I picked Pokey up I noticed a small rock caught in the tread of the sas tire. Drove for 5 min with salesman and ka bang that rock dislodged and hit pass door🙈
15 hrs later it was at the tire shop getting the rims and tires I had 2 years to gather ,haven't heard another rock since.

You have to get over it. It's a truck. My favorite reason for owning a Bronco over all the sports cars I owned previously... I just don't have to care. It's built for off road use, meaning abuse. In Germany, roads can be narrow, I just drive over the side walk when I need to make room, can't do that in my Audi RS3.

I was hoping that I could tamp down on the anxiety I've always felt when buying a new car - specifically when it comes to parking spots and proximity to other cars. It's definitely in the calculus when deciding what car to drive - for instance, my son and I went to a Braves game last night - I drove the sedan. Looking at other cars in the lot of a similar size or bigger than the Bronco, there wasn't a ton of room between cars. Glad I didn't drive it, but I am going to have to get over it and accept that it's going to get a dent - either in a lot or when I take it out off-road. I don't want to jinx it and say I need a dent to break it in, but....................
Coming from an F150, the width of the bronco was a surprise, I have lots of room in most spots. Eased my anxiety a lot

This morning I took the Bronco to a flea market in France to look for weird antiques and find a nice door ding as a present. You just can't have nice things no matter where you live in the world.

I feel same way. Then 4 days after getting mine I was rearended by a drunk driver. 3 months later and still waiting to get into a body shop. I’m sick to my stomach over this ordeal. Good luck staying away from the idiots!

I have this same affliction. To deal with it, I bought a temporary Bronco off the lot. I scratched the roll bar, I gathered rock chips, I put on 5,000 miles in 4 months. Even my Sirius xm trial expired! Now I'm getting my permanent, ordered Bronco next week (along with better protection for the Bronco).
