Hey all,

just received my new Bronco Wildtrak 4Dr 2.7L with Hoss 3.0. Went through the full inspection checklist I got off this forum and everything checked out except the one thing I’ve noticed is upon starting the vehicle it vibrates quite a bit and at irregular times, there’s an associated noise like it’s trying to maintain or find it’s idle, similar to the feeling you get when a car is having issues with its idle. I’ve also noticed while stopped it will sometimes idle at 500 and sometimes 800 without the automatic stop start on. That remains consisted regardless of the demands on the car such as AC. After driving it the noise and feeling goes away. I do notice it gear hunts quite a bit at low speeds but I’ve read that’s normal. In addition, after driving at highway speeds with no load or out of normal demand the engine has a strong plastic or electrical burning smell. I haven’t been able to find any potential source and all the gauges remain in normal ranges. Just curious if anyone else has experienced anything similar and what ended up being the resolution or source? Thanks!

That sounds like normal operation while breaking in the vehicle. After 1000 miles it smooths out. The smells are normal and will go away after 200miles or so.

Agreed on the smells being normal. Took mine about 1 month and about 1k miles worth of heat cycling for it to be almost normal smelling.

My Badlands 2.7 had a really bad plastic burning smell from the first time I drove it. It was also idling up and down. It ran rough. At around 135 miles the check engine light came on. Had a bad o2 sensor.
Dealership replaced the sensor and wiring and everything has been fine since.
Before the sensor was replaced I was getting 12 mpg. Driving nicely.
Since replacement it's getting 19

The smell is normal but the idle is not. See above regarding the o2 sensor.

Have a '22 Wildtrak 2.7L Hoss 3.0. Had it about a month now and 1,500 miles. Haven't experienced any of what the OP describes.

Picked up the Wildtrak last week and also got the plastic smell. I opened the hood and it didn’t seem like it was from the engine.

Hi there, I'd be happy to look into your Bronco engine noise concerns on my end. Will you send us a message with your VIN and dealership info? I can look into things on my end.

Sorry to wake an older thread but it’s my first time posting and this is the thread that came up when I searched…also sounds just like what I’m experiencing.

Noticed the smell (that seems to be normal by many accounts/sources) so I had opened the hood to determine if smell was stronger in engine bay when I noticed there was a rattle to the idle. Doesn’t quite sound as “ticking” as an exhaust manifold, but definitely doesn’t sound normal for a brand new Wildtrak either (2.7 with 278 miles). The rattle does even out after idling a while…posting video of idle with rattle that “settles” significantly at 6 seconds in of video. Seems to idle with the rattle for a few minutes before “settling.”

Any info is appreciated.

I have 2,000 miles on my 2.7 and it does the same. When the engines are cold, in our first started they run in a special mode thanks to smog regulations.

After a short time, they switch to "open" mode (or is it "closed" mode) and that is when you hear that sound just instantly change.

Just an FYI, even Ford states that it can take a thousand miles before things get settled in and act "normal"

Like the last 2 people said, that is normal. got 6000 miles on mine and it sounds identical. direct injected motors sound this way.

I have a 22 Wildtrak that I just got in November. I, like everyone else, had the smell. Mine ran a bit rough for around the first 500 miles, almost like it was self calibrating and learning all about itself and how to work best. After that it has run like a dream.
