My Bronco is/was scheduled to be built this past Friday (10/29).

I’m a first day reservation; July 2021 order.

My original order included the MIC hard top and the towing package. In approximately July, my dealer came back to me and said that if I was willing to change the order, that action would likely move up my build date. I had thought that I read that changing my order still meant that I was in the queue for a MIC top at some point. However, now that I see that a hard top is nowhere to be found on my window sticker, it has me wondering if I misremember that whole item. Perhaps something was mentioned on this forum and I had assumed that a hardtop was eventually in the cards for me.

So - my question is - is anywhere aware of part of the process that keeps my hard top attached to my order? Presuming not, then what are people doing to fill this need?

1) Forego the hard top option forever
2) Attempt to order through the dealer, but a completely separate deal than my taking delivery of said vehicle
3) Wait for non-OEM alternatives

What are other people’s thoughts on this?

TIA

Maybe you were thinking of the soft top with hard top prep kit? You’re going to have to either buy a hard top from Ford in 2023 when they’re available or go after market.

Nope, nothing in this puts you in line for a hard top later, unfortunately. At least the prep kit will be there so the wiper and washer work, etc, but it'll be first come first serve when they start being a purchasable item from dealers. General guesstimates from the community put it at roughly $2500 for a hard top later.

Given how well things are going with McMIC 2.0, I'm starting to think I'll just hold out till the mod top sees the light of day, or an aftermarket solution appears.

My dealer is now discouraging anyone to change to soft top with plans to replace with MIC later. They feel that they won’t really be available for couple of years between MAP and warranty demand. Then the cost is going to be pretty steep. Of course aftermarket maybe different story.

Very informative responses already. Thanks gents. Much appreciated and further proof of how great this board is.

Agree that it will be a wait to get one, and a likely substantial one at that.

I hope an aftermarket option becomes quite viable. I’d surely have to think there is interest and demand for one.

True, ordering with a soft top might mean waiting a couple of years for the MIC.
But ordering with a MIC top might mean waiting a couple of years for the entire vehicle.

I am guessing higher tbh. A good soft top can run close to 2 grand, I think the hardtop will be $3000+ which is why I kept my order the same as I placed it with the MIC top. Somehow I got lucky and it was built pretty much the 1st week and I have been enjoying it for 3 months now. Waiting for the warranty replacement still though and my dealer has no clue at all on eta.

I’ll be shocked if the good hardtops don’t come via the after market. Some of these MIC 2.0’s are pretty bad. I’m ok with mine, so far. Can definitely see honeycomb in spots, though, and I’ve only had it a week and a half.

Ford is having serious QC problems with these things.

Curios- what did you think he meant by changing your order to move it up if it didn’t mean losing the hard top?
I refuse to budge and hopefully by the time mine gets built they actually fix the hardtop issues instead of just spraying a new coat over the MIC 1.0 which it appears is all they did on some peoples build.
I also have the tow package and have seen people who only ordered just last week get picked for a build who got MIC and tow. Sure there are tricks to get it built sooner but I don’t want to settle for less than I want when paying this much.

Hard tops will supposedly be available through Parts in '23.

I was going to get a hard top later but I like the soft top so much I don't think I will.

I don’t fully remember the specifics as it was several months ago. I had thought that essentially modifying the order for the MIC -> soft top change kept a factory order for the MIC to come to the dealer at a later time. Obviously that isn’t the case. I should have asked deeper question to the dealer to lay out explicitly what the moving part on this change meant all the way through.

I hadn’t given it really any thought until I saw my window sticker. I don’t have a hang-up about paying “extra” for the top, since my sticker price went down accordingly (give or take).

I’d be more hung up about it if I was saving the vehicle for myself. The experiences that Ford has put passionate buyers through has somewhat zapped my enthusiam for it. I’m excited to see it, but ultimately the car will be my daughter’s.

That’s good feedback. I take it that you’re pleasantly surprised with the road noise then?

While in a perfect world I would like the hard top, when I had my Wrangler, I was soft top or no top about 10 months of the year.

If that was the deal everyone would’ve done it. 😂

I think your close. $3000 for the MIC shipped sounds right. Shipping and dealer mark-up has to be figured in. I think its funny that so many people think they are just going to order a painted top of some kind when they are available, until thy see the price that is. Not going to be cheap. Also, if its like Jeep, it will just have a primer on it.
