It’s the only front plate I run on any of my cars so “illegal” is relative. That’s the one I wanted, but Texas said, “illegal”.

I went with the straight mount DV8 bracket.DV8 bracket for the win! I have the slanted one.

I like that one too, but afraid it might not be legal also..DV8 bracket for the win! I have the slanted one.

Most states that require front plates to be mounted as far forward as possible, visible from 60 feet, legible and unobstructed. Angle is subjective but mine is visible from 60 feet. (Pic is at 20 feet) There’s a DV8 straight option too.I like that one too, but afraid it might not be legal also..
I ordered one of these off of Ebay. Possibly a knockoff because it has different HBTFD font in the front and uses 10mm bolts instead of torx. The problem is the faceplate has no protective strips on the back like the one linked to here. They are supposed to prevent direct bumper contact. The directions even mention them. Any idea what those strips are? Is it something I can buy at Home Depot or an auto parts store?Worked great on my previous ‘23 BD and now on my ‘24 Heritage.

Too low? It’s perfectly centered. That’s the one I wanted, but Texas said, “illegal”.
I think you’re right about it being a knockoff. Mine didn’t use 10mm bolts or a socket wrench.I ordered one of these off of Ebay. Honestly? I'm not sure. Google's AI said no slanting allowed (see screenshot).Too low? It’s perfectly centered.
Fwiw, I bought mine from Tickle My Bronco (who I thought was HBTFD's authorized reseller?). Just got it. It looks just like VirginiaHeritage's picture (e.g., uses 10mm bolts, says to use the Bronco socket wrench, doesn't come with protective strips).I think you’re right about it being a knockoff. Tickle must have changed their bolts.Honestly? I'm not sure. Google's AI said no slanting allowed (see screenshot).

But after doing some more research, I don't know if that's true. From what I can tell, the actual language used by the two relevant sections of Texas' Transportation Code say the plate must be: (A) horizontal and (B) clearly visible from 50 feet away at night.
Texas apparently commissioned a study and decided to keep the 2-plate rule because it made it easier to identify lawbreakers. I suppose that slanting the plate might make it harder to read letters/numbers from 50 feet away at night, making it harder to catch/punish lawbreakers (like me, rocking my slanted plate).
Some have suggested that DV8's slanted angle might be "horizontal enough". I'm guessing it still violates the 50-foot legibility rule. Regardless, if a random law enforcement officer interprets "horizontal" or "clearly visible" as "slanting not allowed", then I guess you could be pulled over (and if there's no established legal precedent, then maybe you'd be the lucky fellow or gal who gets to help set one, one way or the other, if you fight the ticket).
Anyway, I bought the HBTFD mount after reading Google AI's take, but before checking any further. Since it's the one I now have, it's the one I'm planning on using.

Mine’s tilted so far back, it’s not even there! It’s the only front plate I run on any of my cars so “illegal” is relative.
