Depends on what you plan to do. Sand, mud or rocks are completely different techniques and tools.

Bag of tricks would be
Winch
replacement winch line (winch extension if need)
4-6 soft shackles (a few cheapies so if you have to cut them)
2 - 2" 20ft ratchet straps
10ft, 20ft, 30ft straps
2-3 pulleys
Best come-along you can afford

Plan to winch sideways and be able to rear recover. Don't buy super high end gear as you will have to sacrifice something at some point. You really don't need a kinetic rope but a cheap one would be worth having to tow people out or for light mud recovery.
