Called our local dealer to see if the LED's inside our Badlands headlights/taillights are replaceable. According to him, if the LED goes bad on a Badlands' headlight or taillight, the entire assembly must be replaced. Has he got this right? He quoted me almost $1700 for one headlight assembly.

I ask because I'm giving some thought to purchasing the optional Interior/Exterior LED/Incandescent Lighting Protection Pkg (part of the Premium Care Ford Extended Warranty) from Ford for $70. Without the protection, it's my understanding lights/LED's are considered normal maintenance items and not covered by warranty. Not sure if there's a limited exception during the standard 3/36 warranty period or not (like there is for front-end alignments and tire balancing).

Yes, they are only available as assemblies.
They are only normally only covered under 3/36

Plan on purchasing the 8yr/100k Premium coverage for $1640 ($1710 with LED coverage). One burned out headlight would cover the cost of the entire extended warranty. Odds of it happening are slim . . . but ya never know.

Unfortunately with modern cars and the LED headlights thats gonna be the new norm.. No longer can we replace just a bulb. Theyre usually covered under 3/36 warranty.

Yeah I think it's well worth it. I got pretty much the same thing, but 7 year instead of 8. But it also includes the lighting.

This is why had no interest in these, (and i'll tell you what I love the look of them going down the road....) There are already to many sensors, smog crap, and government mandated electronic BS on new cars as it is and aint none of it cheap to fix... Add that to the cost of vehicles today, gas prices and insurance costs, the automobile is trying to overtake homeownership as the biggest expense in ones life

It's the same deal with Wranglers with the LED head/tail lighting, and why I didn't order them on my '23 JL. Horrendously expensive to replace out of warranty. And they DO fail.

The aftermarket replacement lighting companies are going to make a killing down the road....

Yep, base headlights are only ~$300 cheaper and also only sold as an assembly

I purchased this as the only extended service option recently. I always thought the LEDs should last a long time. Just finished changing out the LED tail lights on my RV after 6 years - granted much cheaper units, and constantly exposed to the sun. Seemed cheap insurance for a very expensive part...

Just curious where you can get the 8-year/100k Mike extended warranty for 1640 (1710 with LED) seems like a no brained at that price. I was quoted almost 5K for that length of time when I picked my new Bronco 3-weeks ago. Thanks

I got the morimoto xrgb. I did the trade and got $600 back for my base lights. I was hesitant at first cause I was afraid they may have issues but they have a 5yr warranty. I dont plan on keeping the Bronco that long but if I do and they fail I figure by that time there'll be more options for replacements for finding used.
