Many extended warranty programs specifically say they are not available for Land Rover vehicles. The cost for repairs is often on the insanity spectrum. Leasing is the only way to go with them.

I don't know, Rover gets a bad rap. I have owned a number over the years and still have my 1994 Discovery. It has 300,000 on it and been wheeled hard all its life. A buddy of mine and I were both Rover service managers and saw a share of service work. One thing we both agreed on was the trucks that were papered and driven by surgeons and lawyers were the problem children. We had the best results from the rigs that were ridden hard. Any vehicle is expensive to have serviced at a dealership. And for some reason people like to do some humble brag about how much it cost to repair their LR. Everything mechanical will break and if you rely on a factory trained tech to fix a cracked coolant line then yeah it will be spendy, Rover, Acura, MB, or anything. Probably the weakest link with LR is parts. People often try to get by on the cheap and use low grade aftermarket parts with poor success and ultimately blame LR. Same idea when you use a mechanic that has never worked on a rover says "oh yeah I can fix that, no problem I am a good tech"
The nice thing about early Rovers is they are inherently field serviceable. A basics compliment of tools and a totem of spares will keep you running, rain or shine.
So yeah I guess I have an opinion about this. Ha ha.
Cheers

I never owned one, but drove many in Europe; specifically one stood out a 2010ish two door Defender 4-pot diesel which cost the Italian military about $26K Euro each. It was a beast. If I could get my hands on one I would in a heartbeat.

that's exactly why so many were disappointed by the new incarnation of the defender.
hopefully, the new bronco will fill that niche here.

actually, i would love to get my hands on the australian military's version of the AMG G63 6x6 diesel

I would settle for the rover over in Australia.

My wife has a 2012 Range Rover Evoke. We have 183,250 miles on it. So fear just over 2000 in repairs. My 17 F-150 with 61600 miles is at 5000 in repairs.

I owned a 2012 Range Rover Evoque Coupe. People questioned my decision until they drove it.

I had some 'issues' - it used the Ford Ecoboost 2.0 and they was a software glitch that resulted in 'safe mode' activation because condensation in the air intake.

I had 3 issues where car went into limp mode and it took 2 visits to fix. One visit took 2 weeks so I let the dealer know my lack of satisfaction. Range Rover wrote me a check equivalent to 2 months financing payments as an act of good will.

It was the first year of the car. And they stood behind the product.

I went camping with a few friends - and folks questioned its capability. The lead vehicle was a Toyota Tacoma and I arrived at the destination with it. The Jeep Wrangler did not.

I am considering a Defender 90 - final pricing for both will make the decision. An Outer Banks, Badlands and Wildtrack with 2.7, Auto and High or Lux package may bring the final price to the high 50s.

If the price is close - I'll take the one that allows me to get what I want, not what the manufacturer wants to sell me.
  • Bronco configuration may result in bloated price and compromises for simply things such as Homelink garage door opener, climate control, power seats and 360 camera.
  • Defender has rubber floors, good tech and many of the 'luxury items' are standard. Road manners will likely be better than the Broncos due to unibody (or monocoque chasis)
Resale value may be fairly close on the vehicles

My folks have Range Rovers, Mom has a '15 Sport w/a Supercharged 5.0 and Dad has a just a Range Rover w/a 3.0 Diesel

Personally, they need to switch vehicles, mom's afraid of driving fast personally and Dad used to be a faster driver than I am, the Diesels too damn relaxed.

They're not bad, but those seats are very uncomfortable for long stretches, and one day, I'll find the fuse for A.S.S. (Auto Stop Start)

Loved mine - it had its issues - the biggest thing with them is to make sure you have an extended warranty - I had 100K miles warranty - and gladly took it in whenever there was an issue. I kept it until 150k, when it needed a lot of suspension things to fix - loved it though. I am hoping the Bronco becomes my next favorite car.
The wife has a new Discovery now - - so I am hoping it is reliable.
One thing though - the Land Rover, never once left me on the road - in 13 years of ownership.
