I know there is probably more than a few threads about this topic….

I was out in the wilderness of Southern Utah (camping, I sleep in the Bronco), and was going to start the vehicle for the first time that morning. NOTHING……OH OH….Try again. NOTHING…..OK, recheck foot on the brake and make sure the transmission is in park and try again. NOTHING.

Then I realized the key fob was sitting on my aluminum Walmart fold-up table, away from the Bronco. HALLALUA!!!! Hopped out of the Bronco and retrieved it. The vehicle started instantly! Yeaaaa!

Here’s the strange part (which I have not verified). With the key out of the car, and pushing the START button, I do not believe I got a “NO KEY DETECTED” warning/alarm. If I recall correctly, I got no response from the vehicle at all.

So….The “No Key Detected” warning only functions when the key fob is in the car????

You should get a no key detected message every time it can’t detect the fob while trying to start it. So if the fob isn’t in the vehicle, it should say it.

Thanks as usual. `I’m going to check it out this morning. I’m pretty sure there was no response from the vehicle since if I had gotten a “No Key Detected” warning, my ass would not have puckered up so much!

Being out in the wilderness alone with only a satellite communicator, these “events“ sort of stand out.

I do know the “No Key Detected“ procedure and have had to use it once…in Dallas.

OK

Test 1: With out the key fob, I’m getting the “No Key Detected” Indication when trying to start the car.

Test 2: Letting the car sit with the doors open (actual conditions) for +15 minutes (so it completely powers down). Test in progress….

You are correct. Perhaps the steering wheel was turned blocking the “No Key Detected” indication.

@ rheinz Another scary UhOh is when Bronco is definitely RUNNING and it flashes..Lol I said let's get going while we can! Granted, the dash temp said 109 degrees..we were paddleboarding and left only cracks in the windows. So, I chalked it up to that

Today i threw my keys on my phone in my wireless charger. Pressed the ignition and got 'No Key Fob'. Grabbed them and pressed ignition again. Fired right up. I did a little test. Every time the key is in the cubby with the wireless charge it will not detect the key. As soon as I put it in the cup holder, dash, pocket, hand it works fine. Not discounting there could be other issues with it not working but definitely doesn't work with the after marked wireless i have. Others may want to try in OEM charger and add on/replacement chargers.

I got no key detected randomly one day. Put the fob int he little cubby, and she started right up. Figured the fob needed a new battery way too soon, so I bought a new 2450, but . . . when I came back to the Bronco (without installing the new battery) everything worked normally. The glitch has not happened again, and the new battery is still sitting in its package on a shelf.
