With the chip shortage, dealerships are desperate for new vehicles so I am not surprised by this. Gotta keep the Ford MAP plant running also.
I am not because its all about money

If I owned a Ford dealership I would offer the stock unit up to all of my reservation holders first before I sell it to the public. I think that it's the right thing to do, at the end of the day that stock unit is screwing a reservation holder out of their 2021 allocation. If none of my reservation holders want to buy it then I would offer it to the general public. My $0.02.

The problem will be if a vehicle gets built for stock that matches someone’s retail order…

(which could happen depending on how they handle allocations… do they count stock units against allocation, and do they build someone’s retail order as stock for another dealer that still has allocation… there’s finite MY21 production capacity so every stock build is theoretically one less retail build… this is gonna get ugly)
This right here. If you need stock to sell, fine. I've seen the dealer lots lately, they're wastelands.

But the second that a carbon grey 2dr MIC top tow pkg with overhead switches rolls out that isn't mine or another reservation holder's?

There will be hell to pay.

In which case you're both right...
ITS A BUSINESS MODEL, not a social justice model.

Haters gonna hate, corporations gonna make profit.

I actually thought I'd be REALLY pissed off about this, but it makes sense to me.

If you want a lower trim model, it'll get built right away. If you want a higher end custom one which will meet commodity issues...you gonna wait for special parts.
In the mean time, regular folks WILL buy whatever is on the lots AND Ford can build those plain janers while waiting for restricted parts for custom orders.

If a hard top is used up for a dealer base model before all reserved 2drs are built, people are going to riot.
The way things have gone I can absolutely see this happening. Nothing would shock me at this point.

If I understand correctly, dealers do not lose an order if someone decides to walk away. There are early res 99'ed orders where the buyer doesn't want to wait for MY23. I think the dealer can change them to 19 and order whatever they want. So there could be hardtops delivered that end up in dealer inventory before identical reservations are built.

They all have the oppurtunity to change thereservation build ahead of time and be WAAY early to get one., at agreed pricing...if only they would.
Dealers gonna get ADM on these bad boys.

Won't that be nice when all of your dealer's allocations are used up with 4 door soft tops instead of customer orders??????? lol I think.

The dealerships near me are spacing vehicles out... like with 2 parking spots between them. Well, except the Gladiators... they’re kinda packed in... lol

I am not happy at all with this but I understand. They got to keep the plant moving as those people need to keep working to make a living. They can’t just halt production for our Broncos. I respect there decision but that doesn’t mean I will forget what has been done.

And that's entirely acceptable and too messy to sort out. But if 2drs with their constrained top are being built as "filler" to keep the line up, that's a whole nother thing.
