Since I have yet to see any manufactured flat plate systems for a seat delete like Goose Gear does with the 2-door, I decided to wing it and build my own. I have seen two other people on here do something like it and figured I would take a shot at it. This will be a lot of trial and error as this is my first solo project like this without my dad (just not living in the same location, he's still alive, don't feel bad) so bear with me and the interesting, non-efficient way I have of doing things. I'm hoping to have it done this week as I would like to use it on a trip I am departing for this upcoming weekend.

This is also my first time creating any build thread of any sort so any help with that is welcome and appreciated.

The end goal will be a level platform from the back of the center console to the tailgate. I will be cutting an angle at the corner where the tailgate latch is as the tailgate has the angled bump out there. I will be cutting the part of plywood that is over the in-trunk storage lid (where the jack stand and that little bit of storage space is) and using hinges on the back so I can have the full platform and still get to the storage area if needed. All of this will be wrapped in auto under carpet.

Day 1 started with picking up two 4x4 plywood boards to get them cut to size for fitting and leveling.

I had some spare 2x6 lying around and used ripped up cardboard as shims to find level. The pictures were taken before removing the bottom piece of plywood to find actual level to the cargo area floor.

Currently here: This is post measurement. Not level as I took all of the shims out, just wanted to see a cleaner look post tarp for a very small glimpse at what it will look like pre carpet.

Day 2 will consist of Home Depot run for the 2x6 studs needed for the brace/supports as well the wood screws to fasten it all together.

More power to you; it looks good so far. Is this so you can sleep in there, or for more storage?

It will be for both but for this first weekend travel it will be for space. I traded in a full size truck for this bronco so I lost a lot of space when it came to the truck bed. Having it all flat will be easier for both the pup and her kennel.

As for the sleeping part, I'll be cutting an extra little bit out of the spare plywood and filling the space between the front panel I have already to the backside of the front seats when they are pushed all the way forward for head room. I have fasteners set up for holding it together and I'll make some sort of removable brace that reaches the foot area to handle the load.

Hopefully I can get a more in depth post tomorrow, it is almost complete. For now this is where I am at.

Tomorrow I just need to pick up some hinges for the trunk storage lid so that I can flip the cut-out portion of the platform up completely. I didn't like only having about 6" of room to get stuff in and out. From that angle it looks alright as I moved the camera down on purpose. From a normal standing angle you can hardly see anything.

For the most part, until carpeted, this will be the setup (plus the storage lid fold-up)

Another quick update. Platform is for the most part finished. Minor little things to be done like eyelet screws to act as tie downs and carpet on the whole thing. Will be as functional as I intended it.

After realizing, that the bronco roof rack doesn’t support the weight of my expensive roof top tent I had to order a new stronger rack. Until then I’ve got a trip planned in a couple weeks. I’m thinking about doing this for a short term solution in case my rack doesn’t arrive in time. Can you post a side photo from the rear door opening? I’m interested to see how it’s supported in front. I wasn’t sure if you removed the rear seats or have them folded forward

So I won’t be back to my house/bronco until Thursday/Friday so the best I can do currently is explain and get photos on here when I get back.

The rear seats are still there, just folded down. The front of the platform is resting on the rear seats and I cut an angled brace that gradually deepens as it goes back to where it meets the trunk area platform. I also installed a crossmember halfway down the braces to support the middle of the board.
I was skeptical of how well it would hold but I tested it with a 100lb dog and a full load out in the vehicle and not a problem. Granted I used 3/4”, 7-ply hardwood boards to make sure I could hold a good amount of weight.
