I finally got around to installing my dash cam. I had seen on another post where instead of fastening the cam directly to the windshield the person used mylar film. I trimmed it down so there was not a large piece affixed to windshield. I ordered some and installed my cam to it. I also used a Dongar adapter. So far everything works great. As you can see in the pics I mounted it up high.

Looksgood. I have a Vantrue S1 Pro waiting to be installed. I'm going to try mounting to the right of the rear view mirror.

I bought an OBD adaptor so have power all the time. I never knew there were adaptors like what you mentioned. Are they also always powered?

Related to this --geographically, sort of-- I have a toll road EZ-Pass, which is just lying loose on the dash right now. I've had problems with windshield installs, and am thinking of mounting it on the left (driver's) side of my mirror, facing forward, of course.
My question: the right side has some sort of sensing devise, but the left side is just plastic. If I mounted the EZ-Pass there, do you think I'd be interfering with any kind of electronic signal receiver? Do you think it would correspond with the toll apparatus all right?

It's only powered when the ignition is on. When I turn off the vehicle it powers down.
Used the same setup when I had my 2019 ranger fx4. The Dongar adapter makes it so easy.

What brand is this dash cam?
NextBase 222. It has the detachable rear camera. You can attach it directly to the camera or run an extension cable.

Just watch it doesn't interfere with the factory front facing collision avoidance camera. Using the mylar really helps since it is easily removable and it uses static electricity to stay fastened to the windshield.

Can you explain the Mylar film approach - I don’t understand but looks great.

You stick it to the glass and then affix the camera mount to it. That way you are not using mounting tape on your glass.

Think of it like window tint film except it's clear. It sticks on the glass really well but will peel off easy if you need to.

Interesting… No issues in the Summer months with the heat making it fall off? I recall having this issue back in the day with suction cup GPS mounts on the windshield.

I use 3M automotive double sided tape to hold my dash camera. Works amazing.

I just installed my first dash cam last week :)
I guess I'll find out soon enough.

I have an EZ Pass too. I actually use Command Strips to mount it in 3 different vehicles. You can register the Pass to multiple vehicles. Since they only give you one set of mounting strips I went this route. Works great. Mounted to the right of the mirror on all 3.

So far everything is working well. My vehicle sits outside all day in the sun and I have not had any issues.

Do you have a link to the full-time power adapter?

I got it from Amazon. Just do a search for Dongar power adapters. When you find it, just remember Broncos use the 16 pin adapter. It makes hooking up the dash cam very easy. You get a few small USB cords with it. Very easy install. This adapter is only powered when the ignition is on or vehicle is started. It shuts off within seconds of shutting the ignition off.
