Inner fender liners

Does anyone have experience with adding metal inner liners in the wheel well. I see a few products that seem very cost effective on eBay and elsewhere. Any downside thinking of an easier way to rinse off mud that gets caked inside. Any advantage when off roading?

My own opinion is that plastic is quieter, lighter, and won't rust. Not sure that powder coated steel is any easier to clean off than plastic. If you are often getting sticky mud in your wheel wells you might consider pre-treating the area with Fluid Film, Surface Shield, or a similar product which is very clingy and only cost 10 bucks a can.

That is a good point. I was also thinking there may be an instance when a rock might fling into the fender well but I really have not experienced that yet. I just noticed they seem flimsy but you make a good point. If I break them then I could replace them later.

I have been considering this. DV8 has a very nice set for the Bronco's. Some of the points brought up are good considerations.

I saw the DV8 and seem expensive for inner wheel liners, they seem to be cheaper manufacturers that offer similar products. But maybe quality would be an issue but after all they are wheel liners so you could easily chuck them.

Hi @Victorsen, did you ever get metal liners? I recently drove through some water on the road and must have kicked up an unseen object. Long story short, my engine died and wouldn't start back up. Ford service came to find that the plastic fuel hose in my front passenger wheel well was struck and the line was crushed closed, stopping fuel flow. I'm sure this was a freak situation but has me valuing more protection. There doesn't seem to be a lot of liner options on the market and the stock liners cover pretty well as is.

Well since this post, I have purchased a set of DV8 inner liners as their price has come down considerably, and even more so when there is a sale.

With the install, I used locktite, and I also used washers when it came to mounting to the fender. I made sure everything was tight and the fit was good. I did need to modify and cut in some places for my reservoirs.

As for cleaning, very easy. Just take a wet cloth, put whatever product on it, and wipe clean. easy peazy. No squeaks and no rattle so far.

I didn’t because was concerned of the noise. I have since gone up to 35 and not as concerned on damaging the wheel wells. Most of my wheeling is dirt roads and rocky terrain and the noise would bother me.
