Luckily this is a for fun purchase for myself.
I don’t need it to get to work. Or to take kids to school etc.

so waiting another year isn’t going to really hurt me.

but having said that I would still like to have my “for fun” vehicle now.

time is a very important commodity. And you can’t make or buy anymore of it.

so I get the people that have had enough and are moving on.

Although you’re going to get some jabs on here… Seems like it’s already started… Appreciate the feedback. Unlike some who just bitch and moan on here and it’s very much an “THIS IS ALL BULLSHIT I’M STORMING OUT OF HERE!!!” at least you put some thought in your post.
Exactly. We need a meme for all the people who like to read threads about other people leaving and then post memes about not needing to announce they are leaving.

Damn, the OP sounds very elitist. As an owner of two previous Broncos but having “never been a VIP in anything” like this OP, I must apologize for making a reservation. And for actually preferring a MIC top over a painted top, which I myself find cheesy unless it’s white.

Sorry. When I get mine in 4-5 weeks, I’ll be sure to remember what a peon I am and how my soft top renders my Bronco non-“premium.”

In all seriousness, I will give the OP some grace, because I’d feel mad as hell of I didn’t have a build coming, but damn.

One more spot for my soft top to move up 🙃

I’m very intrigued by people who cancel at this stage. It’s been said on this forum before but, if you’re cancelling because of events that have gone on, I don’t know if the bronco was the right vehicle for you in the first place. If you want a Bronco, for what it is, there is one single other vehicle that the Bronco occupies market share with, and that’s the Wrangler. There simply is no other convertible, doors off, body on frame SUV. We’ve known for months, almost a year at this point, that the Broncos shown are concepts, and not available unless you have the money to turn it into that. I, like everyone else, am absolutely frustrated with delays. I really empathize for the people who are at the end of their current car’s life and are waiting to replace their ancient vehicle with one, those are the people that are truly between a rock and a hard place. For most of us, who either have a perfectly fine DD and are exchanging it because they WANT a Bronco, they’ll wait for it because it’s what they WANT. For those that are wealthy enough for it to be a second or third car or a toy for nostalgia’s sake, they’ll wait because they could have gotten a Wrangler, but they don’t because the bronco offers things that Jeep does not. It’s very amusing to think about people out there who were on board for the Bronco but are now bowing out. I don’t really understand what the alternative is…not have one at all? A slightly similar but not comparable off roader like a hugely expensive, problem prone Defender or ancient 4 runner? Or accept the Wrangler for its flaws and embrace its strengths over the Bronco? Just funny thoughts.
Your post made me think. I am someone who never in a million years ever considered a jeep or any other off-road type vehicle. I originally got into this because I was researching vehicles that would last 200k miles with proper maintenance, and came across the 4runner. Then I started thinking that if I'm going to have a vehicle for 10+ years, I better get one more capable than my FWD 187 HP Mazda (which I actually really like) - and then I discovered the Bronco.

I have absolutely fallen in love with the way this vehicle looks and what it represents. Perhaps it's being locked down for 14+ months, pending nuptials and all of life's other responsibilities - but it's the first time I ever saw a vehicle that represented fun, excitement and escape.

Therefore, for me, there is no other alternative vehicle.

I honestly have no idea why I'm even writing this out to you or to anyone else. Hopefully someone can come in with a snarky gif. Happy Sunday everyone!

Same here. Ford is damn lucky there isn’t one right now. I keep watching, but for now my reservation stands.

Yeah, it's pretty strange honestly. I think I am also excited about the prospect of being one owner of a brand new vehicle, taking care of it long term, and it being that thing my kids are like "man he really loves that car. Way more than us"

Really slow play it, ya know?

We all made reservations and the white top is really what I’m talking about. But seriously, look at the replies, memes and shit. I just tried to start a simple discussion about Ford and their business process, simply because I actually appreciate the discussion around what many of us have been through. We’ve all had trials here. Anyway, didn’t mean to come off as elitist. I just think Ford is doing this wrong.

So, after I received the 6/25 email, I decided to move on to another vehicle. And, as someone who has been engaged in this forum for several months now, I feel compelled to share the things that eventually drove me away. Hopefully, this won’t come off as a rant although I suspect it might actually qualify as one. But at any rate, I invite any informative discussion on what I see as some of the glaring mistakes Ford has made recently. Here are the ones that come to mind…

  1. The Bronco that I fell in love with still doesn’t exists. This is the Bronco I fell in love with. This is what Ford sold me on…
    5E92AE0E-E309-4985-9D08-8A7632BFC736.png
White Roll Bars, White Grill, White Door Handles. White leather interior. Looks nice doesn’t it? What color is that? This is a premium looking vehicle. Well, nothing like that ever happened. The design team was apparently far, far ahead of what the rest of the company was thinking. That was their first mistake.
  2. Ford underwent what I consider to be a predatory reservation system. They drew in hundreds of thousands of people, most of whom have never been a VIP in any capacity, and gave them street cred for being a reservation holder (i.e. they created the cult of otherwise disenfranchised rock crawlers who became overnight elitist and soon to be champions for their brand). Personally, this was a turn off. The original Bronco was as cool at the golf course as it was on the dirt road. And, OJ wasn’t known for his rock crawling technique. On top of that, Ford was’t in any position to honor reservations as their sole distribution channel consists of independent dealerships over which they have no real control. Clearly, they lost control of many (not all) of the dealers in their network who either poorly represented their intentions or gamed Ford’s system. Won’t get into priority orders.
  3. Ford decided to focus solely on the Jeep obsession and went with the “good enough for government work” mentality. Their goal become hyper focused on being like Jeep but just a little bit better in every aspect. That may prove beneficial for them but I’m starting to think that market wasn’t what I was after. See mistake number 1.
  4. Personally, I think they should have started the hard-top production with the MOD top. Think about it for a minute. Why didn’t they start up with MOD top? Pick a color, any color. I think I know why… Ford chose to move forward with the cheapest tops because they knew they could shove any top down their target market’s throat and get away with it (I’m starting to see a theme here) This, in my opinion will go down as a big mistake. Why? Because when these really start hitting streets from dealer lots, the ones everybody will see will be built as cheap commodities. Cheap Broncos are going to be like the jetski’s of the road. Kind of like I see the Mustang. They should have come out strong, putting their best foot forward. In my opinion, that would have created the sense of pride which has all but been diminished at this point.
  5. I’ll finish with their most important mistake. Their communications. The 6/25 email was the nail in the coffin for me. Firstly, it was full of what I would call quibbling and not at all directly addressing any real path forward. I don’t care about Bronco’s rolling out to customers or how cool their latest Rodeo was. I only care about my order. And, the news wasn’t good. But bad news happens and it’s what followed that blew me away. So, they didn’t seem willing to articulate a coherent plan to remedy the situation that didn’t involve me taking all of the risk. They want (sorry, expect) me to blindly take all of the risk by A) hoping that the MOD top will actually go on sale in 2023. Then B) they want me to take this leap without any clarity regarding a commitment on their part regarding the price. They don’t even acknowledge the shipping. Then they talk about price protection but completely fail to formalize any terms by which they intend to honor their statement by using loose terminology like “equivalent”. Exactly what does that mean? I know I signed a ton of papers that create liabilities for me when I placed my order. Where’s Fords liability? Then they send the email on a Friday afternoon with basically no regard as to how something like this affects my weekend. Way to treat a customer. I can only surmise that this reflects their commitment to shareholders. On that note, I’ve seen far too many comments reminding me of Ford’s commitments to shareholders and dealerships. Guess what, I don’t care about Ford’s commitments. What are they, a teenager? That’s their problem, not mine.
I’ll be honest. I’ve never owned a Ford and I went into this expecting it to be a race to the bottom. But, I walked away from this asking myself… “How do American car companies even exist anymore?” Do people really buy into all this crap? Do people really see this as the norm for conducting business? What are your thoughts?
Why not just push your reservation to a MY22 or MY23 and wait for more options and features to be made available? If you’ve grown too impatient by this point to walk away and get something else, just keep the reservation and delay delay delay so when the bronco you fell in love with is available, you’ll be at the front of the line. I do like that bronco with the white as well, but I have no doubt within a few years that there will be so many color choices and schemes to choose and make it your own, just like ford has said they intended the bronco to be.

Couldn’t agree more. Ford has completely failed at managing expectations. I understand problems arise and Covid was no help, but it must be communicated clearly with a path to move forward. At this point they are 100% resting on the Bronco’s laurels and the faithfulness of Ford diehards.

This will be my first American car. I’m really hoping I don’t get pushed to 2022 but it’s looking more and more likely. Will I cancel if that happens? I honestly have no idea. I’m a day reservation holder and would have been a First Edition buyer if the website was working correctly, so it seems the 6th gen Bronco has been doomed from the start. Hopefully they can turn it around because it. Looks. So. Good.
