Forgot I was subscribed to this thread, thanks for the bump. Like the mini trax setup, and I'm with ya - nobody I know actually uses these things 
. Just the same, I keep a set (because better to be prepared just in case).
I personally don't like a lot of stuff hanging off the outside of my rig, so I use the
"6th Gen Bronco Rear Seat Traction Board Adapter" from modoffroad to mount them behind my back seat.
