My $0.02 after attending the Half-Day Adventure in MOAB.

I attended the full day Off -Roadeo back in May 2022 in Vegas and just completed the Half-Day Adventure this past weekend. IMO the half-day was an excellent and even superior option to the full off-roadeo. The reason I went to the half day was that a jeep friend upgraded to a used '22 Bronco and another friend (this is his first off road vehicle) also recently purchased a used Bronco. Since buying used they cannot attend the full off-roadeo.

Anyhow, we showed up in the morning with everyone and after check-in they announced as usual, that there would be an approximate 45 min. introduction and meet and greet. Another instructor immediately stepped in and said half-day attendees follow me outside. The long and short of it was that we had a quick discussion on our experience and what we wanted to get out of it. We wanted to learn the intricacies of the Bronco controls for the new/used Bronco owners, take on some challenging obstacles, and have fun. We immediately headed off in the Broncos and started wheeling.

We ended up being the only ones enrolled in the half-day so we essentially got a 5 hr. private session, driving the entire time, going on terrain and obstacles that the normal off-roadeo attendees are not allowed to or are taken on. The obstacles were much more challenging than what I experienced on the full-day program in Vegas. While I thought I knew all of the ins and outs of my Bronco (I've had mine since Nov '21), I learned some things about the controls, settings, and the limits (actually lack of limits) to some of the settings and modes. I had my wife drive the entire time and while some obstacles she was scared to attempt (definitely a major pucker factor on some of the obstacles), she did it all and came out with much more confidence in how difficult obstacles can be tackled and how truly capable the Bronco is, along with what she can now do. It really helped having a great guide on the radio and myself with more experience in the passenger seat.

Because of this great experience we upped the difficulty on our last day and tackled much harder terrain than we had planned to do in our personal Broncos. Don't hesitate to enroll in the Half-Day Adventure. We ended up getting significantly more driving time and much more challenging terrain than the regular off-roadeo attendees. As far as costs go, it is a bit more ($795 for up to four attendees per vehicle). So for us it was essentially $400 per person for the three couples in three separate Broncos which could obviously be lowered if people don't mind back seating it and you put more people in each Bronco, but we did get a private session, more challenging terrain, no down time or waiting on bigger groups, and excellent advice on trails to run the next day in our own Broncos after the session was over. Overall a better experience but at a greater cost.

When I went to Nevada, there were some people connected with dealership, but I don't know if they were in our group. I know we started off with seven Broncos and ended up with four. It could be Moab runs half-day groups differently than Nevada.

I imagine it is the luck of the draw. Pricing will obviously play a factor in how popular the half-day becomes.

On another note, Moab should be on every off-roaders bucket list regardless of skill level or risk tolerance. This was my first time and there is something for everyone. The Rubicon is a few minutes from my house but Moab is otherworldly in the offerings and beauty.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I just did the full day off rodeo in Moab a couple weeks ago and was curious about the half day adventures.

You sold me.

Thank you for your input on the half day Ford Rodeo EO. My daughter and grand daughter attended Texas. We had a blast and learned a lot. Our guide/spotter was great. I'm thinking about going to Moab for the half day. WOW!

Do you recall the runs you ran? Or the harder one you ran the next day?

We just came back from the full day event in Moab.

After introductions we were split up into three groups of five Broncos.

Now I can’t speak for the other two groups, but ours was outstanding. Our instructor (Erica) was fantastic. She took us on trails that allowed us to use all of the features in the Bronco, from all the GOAT modes, Trail Assist, One Pedal, etc. we did everything from rock crawls to higher speed trail running.

We had lunch at the halfway point at the top of one of the plateaus which was a bit challenging given the heat (106°F) with pretty strong winds (there was a Red Flag warning in effect).

The trail took us near some caves, an abandoned uranium mine and some old mining shacks where we got to get out and explore a bit. We even got to see some dinosaur footprints.

She taught the groups how to be a spotter, along with getting out to discuss the best way to approach obstacles from an approach and departure.

There was one guy in our group who had been to two other Roadeos (Nevada and New Hampshire). We asked him which he liked the best and he said Moab by far, saying NH was essentially driving through a forest (his words) and Nevada was higher speed desert running. In his opinion Moab was much more technical.

We had a full day of driving that ended with a dinner. There was supposed to be a campfire after dinner at base camp, but with the heat still in the mid-90s, not many people, if any stuck around for that.

My partner came along, more so to see Moab. I had her listed as just a passenger, but at check-in we added her as a driver. She had an absolute blast.

I can’t say enough of the experience. It exceeded our expectations and would highly recommend Moab to anyone.

The only negative was unrelated to the Roadeo itself. We stayed at the Red Cliffs lodge which is in the same property as where the Roadeo base camp is.

The rooms were great and we had incredible views with the Colorado River running right outside our patio, however the restaurant and museum were under renovations. They were serving meals at the Basecamp building but I would rate the food as OK at best.

You could stay in town for probably a lot less money but despite the renovations, we had no regrets. The views were stunning. It’s also about a 30 minute drive from town to the Red Cliffs lodge/Roadeo Basecamp.

We got there a few days early and hiked The Fisher Towers, and explored Arches National Park and Canyonlands (highly recommend). Given the heat we got up at sunrise and would be finished by about 10:30am, got back to the lodge and spend several hours at the pool, later in the afternoon go back out and explore a bit more and then get back to shower and head out to dinner.

The only thing missing was that we didn’t have our own Bronco. Moab is 1,600 miles from SE Michigan.

We flew into SLC, rented a vehicle and drove the 3.5 hours to Moab which was pretty scenic in itself.

All in all both my partner and I felt it was one of the best experiences we’ve had.

Highly recommend Moab!
