Has anyone had a gateway control module issue? My OBX hasn't updated since March of 23 so I made an appt a month ago to have it looked at. Brought it in today & they said the reason it wasn't updating was because the 16 updates for it were one that had to be done by a dealer (yeah ok....) & it would ready in a couple hours. 4:00 p.m. comes & I get a call saying the updates made it to 99% & then they all failed, & they struggled keeping the battery charged for the updates & now its dead. They will charge it overnight & try & install the updates again tomorrow. I told her it was a gateway module as someone from the F150 forum deduced it is the fault in my subject. Anyone else had this, can't they just charge my rig & order a new module? In the meantime they wiped my Ford Performance Tune off & aren't confident in reinstalling it as they haven't done one. I guess there is no hurry since it will be wiped again when they do finally get the module.

I don't know where to start with this one

Ford Performance Tune - as long as you have the little dongle / box it was done with, you can put it back on yourself in about 10 minutes. You just plug in the box, select Install Tune, and it does it's thing. Just make sure the battery is on the charger while you do it (so what happened at the dealer doesn't happen to you).

But you need that box, I don't know if even the dealer can help you if you don't.

I can't see how they "struggle" to keep the battery charged, unless
a) they just didn't put it on a charger until it died mid-update, and that's what wrecked your ACM
b) the battery is going bad, and needs to be replaced, and the dealer just didn't catch it

But what is done is done I suppose. I can almost excuse the second, you may throw it on a trickle charger and think your good until the battery croaks - but the first is like a cardinal sin of doing updates. Dunno that they would admit to the first one either, but I'd definitely ask if they have checked the battery with a load tester.

Thanks, will do, I would be surprised if the battery is going bad because I haven't had any issues or warning of the powersave that I get with my f150. Almost funny as I new they would wipe the tune even though there is a big sticker on the fuse box but they didn't see that until after the fact. Additionally I left the dongle/box on the front passenger seat & they still called wanting to know if they could move it after they wiped the tune. Thats when I told her it was a ford performance tune & inquired if they could reinstall it as it was on the seat & she said while they conventional wisdom would say yes but they really haven't ever done one & I was probably better off going back to a shop that installs tunes regularly. My reason for me not wanting to do it is to keep the warranty but at this point not sure if its that big of an issue.
