Y from the handheld and go with a true mounted Mobil unit and antenna.
what are some recommendations from those of you using them?

What's leading you to move away from handheld? I just got my first handheld the other day. Not had a chance to use it yet.

I like my mic when driving, the handheld always gets away from me at a critical moment because i throw it to the side when I get in from spotting. My 275 mic sits in the phone warmer where I have the mic plug hidden.

Most handheld can have a mic attached and mount the radio somewhere.

Idk I have been contemplating my setup. Figured id start.iff small so I dint have to wire anything including an antenna. We will see how well ot works.
