Hey ya’ll, I’ve been having issues lately with the right speaker on the dash of my 22’ Base and I’m not sure whether it’s just an issue or if it’s blown out and needs replaced or something like that. Specifically, whenever a song has bass is when it acts up like you can see in the video. Any ideas or tips? Also, I would maybe like to put a subwoofer in my Bronco, any recommendations? This is my first time trying to mess with the audio equipment itself so any help’s appreciated

The good news non B&O is simple to upgrade. What's your budget?

I have an excellent Audison AP Bit 8.9 DSP amp and Hertz C165F woofers for the kicks plus a couple of Hertz DCX 4" for the corners that would be a huge upgrade for around $500 plus the wires and idata harness to plug and play. You could get a compact Kenwood loaded 8" sub powered by the 8.9 two bridged channels and it will be a cheap huge upgrade.

Hey, sorry for not responding till now, been really busy with finals. I don’t really know what my budget is, I just wanted to get an idea of how much it would cost to do the fix and potential upgrades, especially because this is really irritating me and I need to get it fixed ASAP. I wanted to see what cheap and mid-range upgrades look like, hopefully nothing crazy. I was originally going to try and see if I could take it to an audio shop, but they wanted $125 AN HOUR just to diagnose it before even getting any parts or work done. The only thing I’m afraid of with doing it myself is that I’ve never done any self work on my Bronco before or any aftermarket upgrades, so I have no idea how to open it up and how to do any of the repairs. Also, I’ve never really gotten much into audio hardware besides getting speakers for the deck of my house before, so I’m not sure what I might need. Also, if I were to do a subwoofer, where would it go? I feel like it would be nice if it could be attached to the swing gate of the trunk. Also, do you need any other videos or anything like that to see what’s going on?

From outside check and make sure no debris is on the speaker, then turn it on and see if speaker seems loose. pull the grill (look up how to) and make sure speaker is securely mounted.

ALWAYS find root of the problem before fixing. Throwing parts at something can be a huge money waste.

The grill is not installed correctly. It shouldn’t be sitting on top of the dash. That near edge needs to go in first. It tucks under the dash. Then the far tabs get pushed in.

or, the tabs are broken and the grill needs to be replaced.

Also very common for the dash speakers to get a bit of dirt in the voice coil and they will sound blown since they can’t move freely. Can tell if that’s the issue by gently moving the speaker in and out - you will feel if there’s grit in there gumming it up. Can sometimes clean it out with a vacuum or compressed air

I’ve never done any work for the grill to be installed incorrectly, that should be the stock installation

Alright, I’ll try and see what I can do whenever I get some free time to mess around with it

Doesn't mean Ford did it correctly at the factory... yeah the lip on the grill is supposed to tuck under the dash there along the high run, then clip in forward.

I’m hoping that’s the case and I don’t actually have to drop anything on replacement speakers. I’m still maybe curious about getting a subwoofer for the swing gate, however.

Any good videos for how to get the grill open?

Upgrading the dash speakers doesn't have to be very expensive and makes a good difference in sound - the Hertz or Inifinty can drop right in without needing an amp and make things sound noticably better for under $100 and about 10 minutes of install time.

A subwoofer makes ~huge~ difference, but it's a much more involved installation and will cost you closer to $500+ (at least if you are doing it right, in my opinion). That said, if it's worth it is up to your taste, for me it absolutely is and makes a big impact right away (not really intending the pun, nor implying that you need to rattle the windows to make it sound great).

Easy test to see if it is the grill buzzing. Put your hand on it. If it stops, there's the issue.
