I have upgraded my non-B&O stereo with three way components in kicks/dash with kicker key 200.4 running those and the rear 4” coupled with the JL Audio stealthbox powered by the kicker key 500.1.

I prefer a front soundstage setup and like what the Kicker Key has done for imaging but feel like the rear channel is a waste. I’ve been thinking about running the rear 4” pod wiring to the doors on my two door and installing these pods.

https://customspeakerpods.com/store...-the-lower-front-door-of-a-21-23-ford-bronco/

with maybe these midranges powered by the rear channel of the 200.4 with Forscan removing the dsp the factory sets for the rears

For those more experienced, any thoughts on this idea? I’ve searched and not found others having done this exactly.

My goal is more mid bass punch without cutting into the door panels. These pods have a 2.75” speaker depth max and I’ve not found a 6.5” sub that shallow. Added bonus of ripping the rear pods out altogether.

Hmm.

It could work. I know i would miss out on having something behind me to balance out the dash speakers reflecting back in front of my face - but I'll assume you've already tried running with just the rear channel disabled and like how that sounds better.

You'll have the door speaker and existing kick panel right next to each other. Like 12" apart, maybe. That's the part that makes me scratch my head here about just how effective it will be.

I was gonna say why not do the rear pods, but I guess doing rear pods you are still buying a pod, it's just you don't have to run a bunch of wire around. So 6 of one/half dozen of the other.

Then there's the whole door removal thing, which I am just taking for granted is not an issue for you.

That said, if you do decide to try it, I'd be interested in how it turns out!

This is as close as I could find

Thanks. Yeah, I’ve had the door panels off to dynamat the insides to get rid of the hollow door slam. I’m handy to do all of the work, just the system design aspect is a challenge.

if someone made rear pods that were deeper to accept a 6.5” sub, I’d consider that too but haven’t found any that are deep.

Just playing with the fader adjustment from center to front, I don’t really miss the 4” in back. I also ripped the back seats out so I’m not worried about backseat passengers.

Mid bass punch. You need good mid bass drivers. Plenty of power. Get rid of midrange frequencies from kick panels. Some tweaking of crossover frequencies of midbass drivers and sub. And time alignment. It’s doable. May require more advanced equipment. I’ve spent hours on laptop/DSP on mine. Sounds amazing.

I went with Wakeboard Tower Speakers in the back versus any of the pods, saves the hassles of dealing with depth that comes with pod and door speakers placements.

I specifically went with these, powered off he rear channels of a Kenwood amp, DSP/EQ Flattened; https://www.rockvilleaudio.com/rwb65b/

But there are lots of more expensive/better choices out there.

Yeah but I don't think those door pockets are any deeper than the rear pods. The Mabett/IAG ones are 3" depth, not sure on SSV. And then there's like what @zuke linked, which are - whatever they come with.

(I think they are almost identical to the Mabett ones)

Rockville is a division of Rockford Fosgate, the driver's are decent quality, and great for mid filler duty like you want. Paired with a sub setup like your Stealthbox, they'd more than wake up the rear of your system... But I wasn't necessarily suggesting the Rockville specifically, I was suggesting any Wakeboard tower... There is a wide selection to be had, including empty enclosures that could let you choose any driver you wanted.

How did you mount those?

Here's the post from when I first setup my system, it talks about how I mounted the wakeboards... I've made a few changes since then, but the Rockvilles and Ford 6.5s in the doors are still in my system in the same place. (Fronts are now Focal Auditors, for more crisp highs, A custom Sub Box with Dual Skar 10" subs and a Skar Monoblock amp)

https://www.bronco6g.com/forum/threads/base-sound-system-upgrade-build.18480/page-46#post-1308877

At the time you had to come up with your own mounting system so I made my own.. but since that time DV8 has come up with a mounting setup for them...

https://dv8offroad.com/products/bronco-roll-bar-speaker-light-bracket

I'm thinking for the cost, I'd still make my own today, but $199 isn't terrible...
