Update: As of three days ago SCORE took back the victory win from the the team #301 and RJ Zanon by changing the official time results. The team missed the time limit of 36 hours with 36 hour eight minutes. Very remarkable feet to finish the Baja 1000 on their first try congratulations for a valent effort. See you at the San Felipe 250 March 2026. RJ is going to run all races in Baja next year.

I'd of declared, "NO TAKE BACKS". It never worked with my brother, but it's worth a shot.

That's a bummer, but as you said, still an amazing effort. I'll be keeping an eye on them next year.

Is that particular truck in good enough shape with an overhaul to field it again next year?

Hello everyone! Seen a lot of questions on here, when I have time I will be doing a full write up of the race and the vehicle.

This vehicle was a mostly stock 23 Black Diamond with the 2.3L. Incredible vehicle made it all the way to the finish line!

What an amazing time you and your team had, the ups and downs incredible.

I had a fantastic time following you in the race at Rancho Nelson then with the pit crews at the 600 and 700 mile marker pits. All I can say how impressive your accomplishment is for finishing the whole race in one piece. Looking forward to the San Felipe 250 next year.

check out this thread also.

To have the initiative to pursue this effort is truly commendable.

To actually have the guts to pull it all together and cross the STARTING line is amazing.

To make it more than 3/4 of the way through and possibly finish this grueling test of man and machine in a first effort on a shoe string budget...in any amount of time...is beyond words.

I'm not sure what experience he (and the crew) has or how much was spent, but I'm sure it's a hellva lot less experience, seat time and money than factory sponsored race teams in a variety of different classes, many of which are probably broken on the trail somewhere.

The only one on the team with any race experience at all was Ken Brown, the first navigator. For the the rest of the entire team, it was our very first ever race.

Apparently that's not what they were thinking. Or, at the very least, they were willing to endure the shortcomings in favor of the thrill.
2.3 power to weight ratio is excellent, lighter engine is easier for the front suspension to manage, and the manual not only transfers engine power more efficiently but it also stays a lot cooler without a torque converter.
I’ll happily take one hand off the wheel for half a second to change gears here and there to gain everything else that comes with running that combo 🫡

Steve McQueen would have driven a manual.

Edit: He probably would have had a couple of cartons of Marlboros, too. So maybe he made some bad choices. :)
