Chips from East Asia travel west past India and up through the Suez canal to then go through the Mediterranean before crossing the Atlantic instead of just heading east across the Pacific? That doesn’t make sense.

They go from East Asia then east through the Suez Canal to get to Gulf and East coast ports.

In fact this article is referencing another article that is over a month old. Also there is no mention of the Suez Canal.
