Are these shutters necessary? Meaning can you remove them without causing harm to the vehicle operation? (Maybe have to trick the ECM with a resistor or something, or live with a warning light.)

I'm asking because down the road if my 2.3L shutters malfunction, I'm not spending $900 on them.

They are not critically necessary. I was going to get the truck back and remove the actual flaps leaving the assembly in place. But here we are lol.

They can be removed without any issue. It will set a code, but not the check engine light as long as you keep the motor plugged in and tucked away.

You started off basically calling me a liar. Thats not a very friendly way of starting a conversation. So im going to turn back the hands of time and take the polite route of explaining this. You didnt read everything i wrote. It explained the progression of where i am now and how i got here. Ill give you the cliff notes.


1. Brought in for valve recall (to a ford dealer cause thats where you have to bring it for a recall)
2. Needed new engine
3. New engine put in (poorly)
4. Problems with truck after new engine in
5. Since the dealer did the work/damage they agreed to fix it
6. Its escalated from there while they have the truck

The truck is apart. I will never bring the truck back here. But i have to get through this. MY goal of documenting it on here was to keep others informed. And also get advice. Trust me id rather have my truck back and just be on here creating the 1000th thread about what wheel tire combo will look nice on my truck.

And also, hindsight is 20/20. Its easy for these things to grow and before you know it you know it you're here. Not because someone is stupid, lazy, cheap, or a liar. These things do happen. Trust me its a lesson learned. I wasn't well physically and bought this truck as a fathers day present to myself to enjoy with my young son. The last place i want it is there.

I still think you should cut your losses, ask them to put it back together and you will take it as is and you move on to another shop. As hard as is to believe some of the details of their progress, it's even harder to believe that you're going to come out on the other side of this in any way whole.

Update!!! Got the truck back finally. 2 months almost to the day. They changed the smart junction box and the grill shutters. When hot it was up to 216 degrees. I didnt push it. Now that i have it home and out of the dealership i will get it independently inspected. Opened a case with ford, called owner of dealership, and local news and only then did i start getting traction. The owner blew a gasket when he found out they were just ordering grill shutters and tossing them aside when the ohm’ed out of spec. Also funny story: I also found out that when i brought my vehicle in for the valve recall it actually passed the test but they told me it failed and actually wrote on the invoice that i brought it in cause it ran rough and inspected it found the engine was bad. I brought that up with ford corporate and i think thats what got things going. I brought the vehicle in for the recall ten days after i bought it so if it was running rough i would have just it back to the dealer i bought it from so that doesnt make any sense.

I can actually understand why that guy tried to say this whole story is bogus. I probably wouldnt believe it either if it didnt happen to me. Personally i think they messed something up on the engine install and this stems from that. This is good news for all of you because it doesnt seem like its something any of you will have to deal with unless you get an engine installed by this dealership lol. Lesson learned and i live to tell the tale.
Now on to sorting out my bronco and enjoying it!

The minute anyone finished saying the words “this is a recorded line” i would start with are you aware of the potential fraud that occured on this repair… im not done with this.

So a final update: just closed the case with ford corporate. After all of that the dealership fixed the items they needed to and the truck works as it should. New engine, active grill shutters, and smart junction box.
Just got off the phone with ford corporate and for the trouble i went through they gave me a bumper to bumper ford protect esp for an additional 36k miles or 36 months with a $100 deductible. So the truck is now covered to 2028 or 78k miles. My rep at ford corporate was really cool and would follow up always when she said she would. Those calls and complaints to corporate made a huge difference in getting stuff done by the dealership. Just wanted to share with everyone a happy ending to the story. Being on the other side of this ordeal is a huge relief. Now i get to enjoy the truck.

Happy to read you finally got resolution and back into your Bronco.

I wouldn't be surprised if the tech at that dealer was terminated, and if so, it would be useful to know where he is working. Maybe he keeps a LinkedIn account.
