Dumbfounded with kicker powered sub.

Had this particular unit installed by a reputable shop locally 3rd week in september.Worked flawlessly until week of Halloween. Appears that the voice coil "locked up" and blew the 2 -25 amp fuses at the amp on the box ,but not the under the hood main fuse . Shop had another same unit in stock and just swapped it out thinking it was a flawed product ... and here we are now almost 4 weeks later ,and now same issue and condition. They did not use a loc,and just did high level inputs tapping off of kickpanel speaker I believe... anyone have some insight ,so I have a leg to stand on revisiting shop after this holiday weekend ...I love the product and its space saving design .... but obviously something is terribly wrong not knowing where to start....all buttons on amp are set correctly and gain is probably just about 1/3 of capabilities and crossover right about 50 and down

I have that sub along with a kicker 500.1 amp and it operates flawlessly.

My guess is that you have a short on one of the wires and this is causing the problem. I would follow every wire and inspect them thoroughly for any nicks or damage in the outer jacket or perhaps even a pinched wire. I suspect that there is something sharp that has damaged the jacket and when you hit a bump or something the wire moves and it creates the short.

The coil is definitely blown...no bounce back on excursion... which I believe would blow the fuses ..in that order ,correct?I am with you on wiring aspect of something just isn't right ... just think working for 3 weeks with nothing noticeable then ....blown

Hmmmm - I just reread your initial post. I have the non-powered version, hence my outboard amp. I am not familiar with the fuse set up which you indicate as 2x25 amp but the fact that they both blew would almost certainly indicate a power issue. I would also double check that the sub is properly grounded.

I agree with BSchurr. I have a similar set up but with a bigger Kicker amp and a line output converter and have never had an issue. I think you have a pinched wire somewhere requiring a thorough trace to correct. Even high end expensive installers train newbies who don’t think through how panels, clips, screws, etc can scrape or pinch a wire.

Also make sure you are using a low pass filter / crossover or EQ set to strip out everything high frequency going to the sub. If high frequency is getting to the coil it can cause them to heat up (and makes the sound muddier while doing it)

Ok when you people indicate pinched wire ....I am assuming you mean in the signal set of wiring..Not the power side ?.. Also looked at this the other day ...since I will not be relying on the b&o sub any longer ....would i be better off just doing this plug and play adapter that plugs in to factory clip on sub itself ? And converts to either hi level or r c a ..Thanks for the responses and time of thinking it out for me ...Jimmy

I would highly recommend a call to Crutchfield. They earned my loyalty for life. They stayed on the phone through many long calls to build my order and troubleshoot some specific installation issues. The sound is many times cleaner, richer and louder than the B&O system. They also sent detailed notes with pictures on the installation specific to the Bronco from someone who tore apart a 2021+ Bronco. Also the line output converter was key.
