DIY Budget Bumper Pocket Light Setup

You inspired me. I have some cheap flood lights coming in the mail. My goal is more side view lighting than true drive lights.

I climbed underneath mine to see how I would mount them and noticed a couple of holes on the backside of the bumper. They're covered in the photo above. Here they are.

I'm thinking a simple angle bolted there would provide a place to bolt the lights to. Thoughts?

I hadn’t gotten under mine, but yes this looks like a great solotion.

Those holes are not threaded. That might be a tube or it might be a channel. I didn't get that far yet. If it's too hard to get a bolt inside to stick out I would just use blind nuts. Search for rivet nuts, rivnuts, nut-serts, etc. Toggle bolts would probably work too but I did not check the depth.

Hmm I'd be interested to see if that works. I've only ever used those kind of nuts for interior construction not automotive.

I looked at these (the 3 light option) and as soon as I saw the dropdown with 837 options for lights - I left. too damn complicated

Customization like that is awesome compared to a set kit. I’d be glad to make a recommendation depending on your usage. I kind of geek out on things like this.

Great job! Could you give measurements of your bends, angles, etc? My father in law has access to a lot of equipment at his work place. I am sure he could bend a couple for me, but wouldn’t be able to test fit/fab on the Bronco. Thanks!

I took some measurements. If you could make the bend shorter than 1 inch that would work better but I didn't have tools for that. I had to have my second bend on an angle because of it. Also, I only measured the 3 front hohes. The holes for the lights will depend on your specific lights and how you space them... Here are the pics.

It's been cold in NJ recently so I haven't had any desire to go under the truck in the driveway so they're still not installed yet. I'll post pics when finished

Step away from the workbench, that galvanized roll has no place on a Bronco.

Aluminum would probably crack and tear when trying to make the bends for the bracket.

Yeah, the aluminum could crack unless it's the right alloy. 3003 Aluminum Sheet is good for bending.

Your right though, some of the other aluminum alloys aren't too good for bending and can crack, etc. like you said!

most companies doing these pocket brackets are using the 3 bolts on the bottom that I'm aware of. Good job though OP I've been milling around the idea of doing the same thing myself. Thank you for motivating me to head to Lowes tomorrow.

Those brackets look exactly like the ones I used on my Raptor before I changed bumpers. I need to see if I can dig them up. Maybe I can modify them to work on the WT.

I'm curious if they would work, even if it took a bit of modification. The raptor and bronco bumpers look similar and the pocket lights are too. I wouldn't be surprised. I thought about buying a raptor bracket and seeing.

I'm going to dig around for them tomorrow, knowing me I tossed them. I tend to do things like that if I move something more than once out of the way.

Yeah I knew about them. Wasn't sure I could use my own lights or not. I would use them next time prob.
