Difference in Base and Black Diamond Tires

Is it safe to say that the only real difference between the Base and BD are the trim options and stock wheel/tire combo?

Meaning, I could also run the exact same wheel/tire dimensions (to get to the 32") on the Base without any modifications/issues considering the suspension and dimensions are identical? Seems the only thing that would be off is the speedometer. Thoughts? Thanks!

Yes you can run 32" tires. I think you can even go to 33" tires without issues on Base, BB, and BD but I'm not 100%.

Some folks have jumped up to 35's with no lift and they fit ok.
No offroading for sure, but sounds like they'd be OK on the street.
The gearing would be pretty far off at that point, especially if you got the automatic (3.73).
Manual 4.46's would be OK, especially up to 33" tires.
35 might be a push, but it sounds like it's worked ok so far.
I intend to run 34" on my manual baseBase.

The closer you are to stock offerings, the better .... if any of that is a concern for you.
Going from base 30s to Badlands 33s is a decent jump, but the vehicle has been designed for it.
I'd be more concerned about suspension and body lifts raising the COG than anything to do with tires up to 35".

That fine for me ... you have to decide what is fine for you.
33s are not going to hurt the vehicle ... my opinion.

Seems like it would be OK but then all I hear from all the tire dealers and FORD service departments lately is to stay with OEM specs and stock sizes given. Not sure anymore...

I don't see it as a big deal, but it does depend on where/how you are driving it.
The 10% difference in 33" vs 30" will affect off-the-line and slow speed off-road performance, and it will also lower your rpm at highway speeds. But in between those two speed extremes, the 10 speed automatic will hardly know the difference.
You will need to get your speedo recalibrated for the difference.

Pick the BD if you want the MGV interior.
Or for about the same price your could add Sasquatch to the Base and get the 35's and all the other Squatch features.

Don't forget the BD has rear lockers and optional Advanced 4wd. The base does not, and no option to add unless you go squach!

It sounds like you are looking for re-assurance that it will be OK .....and if it ended up NOT OK , somebody will accept the liability.

NONE of the folks you listed will officially approve you modifying the vehicle.
It's called liability and they don't want nothing to do with it.

Aftermarket parts companys will guide you , BUT,
  • they are trying to sell you something
  • They will not cover the factory warranty if Ford says "NOPE, you modified it.
What is your goal?
Squatch look?
Badlands 33's look?
Black Diamond/ Big Bend look?
You broke? New car is not the best choice for you....modifying it would be an even worse decision.

Here are your four options I could think of:
  • Do nothing to the Base rig. ........Warranty stays intact 100%
  • Ford Performance will have lifts available , probably soon and probably lift, tire, wheel packages....all available through your dealer. ..........warranty SHOULD stay intact 100%.
  • Go on your own and accept that you MAY lose warranty coverage. This is all on you and YOU have to be ready to accept the responsibility AND liability if it all went south. IE: Man Up!
  • Order a Squatch and be done with it ..... FACTORY WARRANTY !!!! FTW! (or a BD or BB or BL or WT...)
If your just looking for 32 or 33 inch tires, my opinion is just do it, nobody is going to give a crap..... but they could. There are no guarantees from internet strangers.

Still uncomfortable, get the Black Diamond. It's an awesome rig!

... or get whatever and Squatch it ... I LOVE the Base Squatch for the value!!! In the end, I dropped the Squatch to keep the manual. But gues what's coming in 2022!! ManSquatch, hopefully available in the Base = BaseManSquatch!!!

Squatch is currently the best, most capable , all inclusive offroad package available through a major manufacturer .....WITH A WARRANTY!!!
It's is one HELL of a bargain, even if you don't intend to use it to it's full potential.
