Did Not Shift from 1st after stop

This is the second time this has happened. First time it happened I backed out of my driveway. I shifted into Drive started forward and the Bronco was stuck in first gear. Pulled over, shifted into park and then back into drive and all was normal. That was about one year ago. Then just the other day I was at a stop light and the light turned green stepped on the gas and she didn't shift out of first again. Pulled over shifted from D to P and then back to D and all was good once again. Has anyone else observed this behavior? I had posted something when it happened last year and someone suggested that perhaps I was in Manual mode but that was not the case either time. bronco is 2.7L w/Automagic transmission.

I actually may have had this happen yesterday. I just stopped at my kid’s school to drop them off, kicked back into drive to go home and the engine revved like crazy when I pulled out into traffic. My house is right around the corner, so once I got into the neighborhood I didn’t need anything beyond first, so I assumed I was hearing things and forgot about it till this post. Weird.

Yep, a couple times that’s happened to me too after a cold start, but it eventually shifted into 2nd maybe 5 seconds later. Then after I stop at the end of the street and start down a slight grade it acts like it misses a gear (coasts for a second) then catches into 2nd or 3rd. After these episodes, things go back to normal for the most part. Granted I’m used to being in control with a 5spd manual WRX, but this tranny doesn’t feel like it’s all together there - subtle clunks, hesitations, maybe it’s still learning at 5k miles?

This has only happened to me twice. I do agree that the first shift from 1st to 2nd when cold is a bit rough. I am going to keep an eye on this and see if it starts to occur more often then I will bring it iin to get it checked. No codes were set either time this happened.

Following…. this just happened for the first time this weekend. Climbing to over 4500 RPM without shifting… stopped put in park and back to drive. Not a good feeling at 2K miles.

Crosses fingers, so far I haven’t had this happens. Cold starts lately have been in the 40s. All winter, 20 and below
