Was doing a deep clean of the whip and looked closely for the first time around the suspension when I saw this discoloration around the struts. Unsure if this is even corrosion or not. My vehicle was not impacted by the recall so not sure where this came from especially since I am in the ever perfect weather area of SoCal…. (I wish it would rain).

Images are right above the front wheels looking under the coil spring. Concerning location is the body/sleeve and then also the bolt at the top.

Would this be concerning to you? Think it’s a warranty thing? Also open to the ā€œjust do yourself a favor and replace it with the blisteins/eibachs/ etcā€ responses.

My bolt on my 23 badlands is the same condition so maybe normal. I’m in the pnw so not a lot of rusting over here either. I couldn’t tell about the underneath but

No idea why your worried about that rusting?

I bought a 1994 Toyota pickup brand new. The rims rusted 6 months. The inside of the back bumper was bright orange on the dealer parking lot (took 6 years to rust through)

Suspension parts rust
It’s just a basic car.

Thanks for the replies y’all! This is the first vehicle I’ve really inspected closely / been able to easily see the components so not super familiar with what the parts look like after some use. Seems like this isn’t concerning and shouldn’t affect anything. Interesting that these bolts/components don’t use better corrosion resistant materials….

Actually, the surface rust is a protectant to a degree and saves Ford aa tremendous amount of money but looks unsightly 🤠

How is surface rust a protectant on steel? The rust would penetrate deeper into the surface and weaken the material no? On aluminum the surface oxidation would protect because it can only be a thin layer and is hard..

Well not so much a protectant, but in most cases is just surface rust.

I'm more interested in hearing about corrosion on the aluminum body panels. Airports restrict actual salt from runways because it will corrode the planes........so what about ours?

Your car isn’t designed to last forever

Ford doesn’t put extra effort into making a car to last 100 years

It’s designed to last 150-200,000 miles (if that)

It’s designed not to rust through for 5-10 years

I own a gt500 and. HC challenger. The gt500 suspension showed signs of rust first few years. It’s not gotten much worse but for a car not driven in rain/snow it’s not great. The dodge? Looks brand new underneath. Not a hint of any corrosion

Fords aren’t made that well. They never have been. They’ve always been rust buckets. You see endless 1960s Chevy and mopar muscle cars. Rarely do you see a Torino or cyclone. They rusted out and long gone.

They probably do that to improve the fatigue resistance of the plane parts. Protecting aluminum by anodizing could reduce its fatigue resistance. But i am just pulling at straws here šŸ˜…

Because deicing fluid works better than salt anyway?
