I was installing the turn offroad tailgate reinforcement and tire carrier today and ran into an issue - I unfortunately got the short straw and my bronco has the 5 wire camera setup instead of the coax setup, meaning the included plug and play extension wont work. They provide some wiring to extended the harness by splicing a piece in, which I figured wasn't a big deal, just more work.

I cut partway up the harness on the camera end and was surprised to see what appeared to just be an unsheathed wire connected to a sheathed wire in the middle, with a weird loop (I should have taken a better before photo, here's mine after cutting and one from the LOD destroyer instructions). This was black copper connected in a loop section to unsheathed wire.

I figured this wasn't a big deal as the instructions said to cut and splice anywhere. However, now that it's all spliced back together, nothing works. I've got no backup camera and no 3rd brake light.

Can this be salvaged? Am I missing something with that loop I cut? I should have unwound all the tape before cutting, big mistake.

If I need a new harness - does anyone know the part number?

To make things worse, we're supposed to be going on a road trip in a week. I appreciate any help!

When I first did this same thing, I had the same thing happen

Two quick checks:

Make sure your wires line up and you didn't cross any while connecting them. It looks like you connected the black to black on the camera side, but the black wire to the shield conductor in the top pic / door side? Shouldn't that pass through to the other end of the black wire? Hard to see, it may just be the way the pic is though.

Make sure you remembered to plug in the harnesses again over in the side panel - this was my issue, and I felt like an idiot. Just needed to plug it back in.

The uninsulated wire goes with the foil shielding to help preserve the video signal and protect it from EMI. They aren't insulated so they stay in contact with the shielding and keep it grounded. They are grounded/terminated at one end only, and just get trimmed and taped off at the other end.

Well, that makes two of us! Just went out and checked, I had also forgotten to plug the harness back in at the side panel - everything works great now! Take solace in knowing you're not the only one that made that mistake, I was so stressed about this with the upcoming trip. Thank you!
