A bad day.

Day 2 Update - The early Easter Sunday morning attempt to pull the White Ford Bronco from the sandbar failed, with the 3 inch tow rope snapping. Check out the video of the car and at the end, the attempted removal

No way insurance is going to cover $.01 of this. And they shouldn’t. Stupidity should be punished and no other insured motorist should be stuck having their rates increased.
Question for anyone on this forum working in insurance claims… do you think it will be covered? I took a glance at my State Farm policy. I don’t see anything that says legal, on-road use is a requirement or anything that excludes off-road use from coverage.

That's not how insurance works, bud.
Thank you for the insurance explanation. It wouldn't be the first time I've been wrong about something. Since you know quite a bit about it maybe you could explain for everyone here how it works when you're using a vehicle in a way likely to cause a loss. Many people here go off road and it might be useful to know what would happen if you slide into some rocks when going through Moab. Please enlighten us with your wealth of insurance knowledge.

Insurance policies don’t cover intentional or reckless acts. Most policies will have language something like the following: An insured will not be allowed through intentional or reckless acts to consciously control the risks covered by the policy.

Whether an act is so inherently dangerous as to likely end in damages is a finding of fact. In some cases it will be a finding of law. Again, law differs by state.

I cannot think of a place where this would be covered.

Made me glad I ordered the Everglades.

The winch, snorkel, wash out / draining floors might have helped - at least for the first 36” of water. 🤠

Doors and roof off might have helped lighten the load too.

Maybe the Bronco owner was inspired and was just combing the beach for plastic trash and got caught by the tide. Doing it for the sea turtles.

I only ice fish a few times each year, and it's in the comfort of a luxury heated ice shack(complete with an oven/stove, shower, and satellite TV) where we play cards and drink beer. We were snowmobiling the day of the fishing contest this year and stopped by the beer tent on the ice to have a beer and take in the scenery.
this just ratifies what I've always believed, fishing is just an excuse to go drinking, I don't need excuses!

I say it’s a covered comp loss. People drive in the beach all the time. Just like those who drive into potential flood waters, the owner of this bronco didn’t “intend” for it to get stuck and swallowed by the ocean. And yes, stupidity is covered.

You know - for what it is worth ..always air down before going out onto sand 15psi or less, have a tow rope and traction matts. Once your stuck ...flooring it will get you really stuck.... Always have someone with experience with you and preferably never got out alone - have two vehicles. Heed the warning signs. When you get back after a safe day at the beach - thoroughly spray the salt off the underside of the vehicle with cool water -after it has cooled down.
I know this is obvious to 95% and I am not lecturing. We all learned at some point and if this helps one person - then awesome.

It will be covered, especially if a bank has a lien on it. Accidents happen, even stupid ones, and insurance usually pays up. They most likely will not cover him for any other policy and could possibly try to reclaim some of their loss, but for the most part insurance covers stupidity.

A friend of mine that lives in Bar Harbor said that people saw them doing donuts in the wet sand right before they got stuck. If you look at the next to last picture, you can see some donut tracks between them and the beach. Maybe those are from rescue attempts. I feel bad for them, but maybe use better judgment as drivers.
