Balanced out means Ford will continue to use all parts available to build the most profitable broncos on a month to month basis.
I ordered a base 4 door in late july 2020 and took delivery about a month ago.
There was some luck involved with that but
It was a well known fact that we were dealing with commodity restraints and obviously if you order a vehicle with fewer parts you will have a much better chance of your vehicle actually being built.
Keep in mind this is all about Ford making money not about what you "want" and there is an aftermarket to buy your bolt on stuff.
I am about to order a two door base for my wife.
Good luck.
A contrary thought is that a HUGE part of "making money" is properly fulfilling the demands of your customer base. If customers are being alienated there can be serious repercussions that will linger with the brand for a long time to come . . . and of course that will carry an economic impact. Therefore I don't think it is likely that Ford merely chases quick money through easy builds at the expense of alienating customers further. I am sure Ford is cognizant of the fact that this launch has driven customers into the hands of competitors such as Jeep and Toyota, as plainly seen here on B6G. I can't believe that they would intentionally do anything to make it worse than it already is. The rub I think is a dilemma . . . trying to balance dealer needs (literally their sales drive chain) with customer needs because Ford needs both. Sure, the customer is the most important person in the room, but the dealers hold the key to the room . . . so Ford is stuck trying to please both.

Ford isn’t balancing out 2022 production in January. Ford shuts down scheduling for a model year 4-8 weeks from the model change over date. “Balance out” in a ford assembly plant is the day all the current model years vehicles are finished and the next model year vehicles fill the assembly lines.

What will they do if 2022 is “balanced out”? Stop taking orders for 2022?
My wife and shopped 6 dealerships (all different brands) over the weekend, as she is looking to replace her BMW. None had a new sedan to test drive, and all said for new we’d have to order and wait at least six months for a build. The whole industry is messed up. The big local Lexus dealer had only two new cars on their lot, both in the showroom.
Had the same experience in the Philly area. Call dealerships from other major brands and ask about a test drive. All just laughed and said I could order a vehicle that would take 3-6 months to arrive. They also act like they're doing you a favor by letting you buy at MSRP. What a time!

I'm either buying the Bronco I ordered or the redesigned 4Runner, whichever hits my driveway first is the winner. I've already been soured on Ford products and regardless of outcome I'm done with Ford after the Bronco nightmare.

It is absolute INSANITY that even some day 1 reservations won't be filled when Ford will have had 1.5 model years to build the damn things if they just went down the list in timestamp.

I want success for the Bronco but I hope some decision makers at Ford are fired over this launch.
I am sort of leaning the same way after reading a review on the 4Runner TRD Sport. When will the redesigned 4Runner come out, MY 2023?

A poster on this board that works at Toyota says reveal in September. If it has similar styling to the 2023 TRD Sequoia it will be pretty sweet.

Plus Toyotas are pretty much bullet proof from a maintenance perspective. Had to get my TJ smogged and there was an old Toyota pickup flat bed there getting smogged and it had 400K plus on the clock and was running like a top.

I need to see this Memo

I have nothing on my feed for this, it sounds like speculation, but props to your Bronco Salesmen for at least preparing you.

I can say that there are probably over 80k orders in the Ford system, there is no way they fulfil those for 2022 MY. Please keep in mind that if you go to a MY23, it doesn't mean you're for sure waiting until 2023. It is very common for the MY to be a year ahead of our current actual year. It is some stupid mentality the Auto Industry made.
It is also common with Ford to be a MY behind as there are 1,000s of people still waiting on their '21 Broncos.

Maybe this year they will switch over to MY '23 earlier than December like every other OEM has always done.

Hi guys

just got this email from my sales guy at a Ford dealer in Ontario, Canada. I'm part of the July 2020 reservation group thats still missing a VIN.

Has anyone else heard of this 'balancing out' that he is referring too? Did Ford send a memo out to anyone else's dealer?

Full Text:

Sorry if this is a repeat but I tried sending you a reply yesterday but seems like it got stuck in my outbox.

I completely agree with you on how Ford is dealing with early reservation holders, they should have done a better job communicating what is going on. Even for us at the dealership, getting answers to questions is like pulling teeth, we constantly get the run around. My suggestion if you really want a Bronco by summer is to order something without constraints, this way you will get it serialized and built the quickest possible. Then hopefully by next year, when all of this craziness dies down you can trade it in and get what you really want. I know this isn't what you wanted to hear but it's my best suggestion to get you into a Bronco ASAP. There was a memo that just came out that the 2022 Broncos are going to balance out soon as they can't keep up with the demand. This is only one out of 9 vehicles for 2022/2023 that is already balancing out and we are just in January. I'm at a lost for words one what is going on. If you want I can refund the deposit and cancel your order. Let me know if you have any questions

Edit1:

"Balanced Out means:

scheduling will continue but retail orders are quickly approaching our
total allocation for the model year.
Customers may not be able to fill current model year orders."

Meh, your dealer is just lighting a fire under you to order a vehicle that is going to be incomplete to your specifications . Has he shared a copy of Ford's memo?

If Ford was gonna move orders to next year, they would have sent an email to all reservation holders like they did last summer about the moving of all remaining MY2021 reservations to MY2022,

I'll file this under " My dealer says....". I'm still holding a reservation for a 4dr BB hardtop, 2.7 and tow package. I'll move to MY2023 if I have to, I'm patient like that. Why should I get a vehicle I'll be unsatisfied with and then hustle to trade it in with the unpredictable market?

So the dealership allocation, and not a Ford thing, is how I read that. Interesting that they are also suggesting what many others have done, just order a non-constrained Bronco and apparently they can get that filled. Those two statements seem to contradict each other. "Our allocation is almost full, but if you order a Big Bend soft top without tow, we can get you in that."
Not contradictory. If he moves to unconstrained, because he’s near the front of the line at the dealership, and has removed the commodity restrictions, his order can now get built. Someone further down the line will be at the “balance out” cutoff point.

yeah and good thing i'm smart enough to keep my money instead of rewarding this crap with another sale. I'm a holdout since July 2020, what difference will more waiting make? All this really does is reinforce the idea that customer communication is paramount, and they are failing significantly.

I'll get my Bronco one day, but I will not actively recommend anyone buy a Ford, quite the opposite actually.

Try ordering from another dealer. After waiting over a year, I ordered a 2nd Bronco Wildtrak Lux Leather from a very large dealership in December '21. I now have a VIN and build date for the 2nd Bronco and still nothing on the 1st Bronco. I guess you have to be lucky and win the lotto, no body knows for sure. Worth a shot though.

I hope Ford learns some simple lessons about communication and customer relations after this Bronco debacle. From rogue ADM to production and delivery, communication has been abysmal.
