Mountains to metal makes a neat safe for that spot. Expensive though. Amazon has ABS plastic safe doors for it sub $100.

I was wondering the same thing when I was making it but haven’t notice any problems. Maybe because there are no seals or gaskets around the lid?

I think it has more to do with driving with the windows open and allowing some airflow out to reduce buffeting / pressure imbalance.

This is correct, and I think also for when closing the doors.

I’ve been prying the stock cover on and off since Day 1 and storing zip ties and other misc stuff in that spot. I need to look and see if it will hold my stubby bottle jack come. To think of it. Anyway I picked up the cheapo Amazon one. Instead of the M2M one I had my eye on, because I don’t think I’ll keep anything serious in it - plus it’s got the light. I looked at the pic and it’s vented; doesn’t matter to me in a soft top, but it was a good design consideration. Plus I’ll eventually go to an Armadillo top and the rest of my tailgate is a sealed stinger box.

Received today and it’s pretty sturdy plastic cover - way better than the chinzty OEM vent cover I keep snapping the tabs on, with a light to boot. It’s no M2M strength but for the money looks like a winner.

Edit - installed, pics. We’ll see if it rattles and if so I’ll add weather strip; so far looks good. The lock is kind of pointless but it makes for a solid latch.

Here’s the one I have, lock and latch works fine so far. It was actually a little higher quality than expected for the overall build of the kit. We’ll see how it holds up.

Battened down the cover with weather strip, and added 20’ 4 gauge jumper cables. Fit perfect. No rattles.
