Only 12k miles. So pitted that my morning commute (east bound) is borderline sketchy. Does ford use cheap glass? Is this an issue with wranglers as well?

nearly vertical windshield.
Fairly soft glass
yes, it happens to jeeps too.

Get zero-deductible glass coverage and never look back.

(19k here and I'm on my third windshield)

Not sure what part of the country you are in but I guess it would depend on what is put on the road. When I lived in Colorado they put gravel and sand down for snow but rarely if ever would clear the roads. I have Exoshield on my windshield down here in Florida, but to be honest it’s only reliable for rock strikes cause the clear coat went bad within 6 months of being on my windshield. Not sure if it is from the heat down here or what but it looks patchy and awful, but it has saved my windshield twice from rocks on the interstate. I partly believe the issue is the angle of the glass but I’m no expert on that.

Yup,its sand blasted daily on the highway. As said above. Look at any jeep on the road Its a rock catcher. You will go through several windshields if you are even just an avg driver with mileage. I try to give a huge gap in between myself and others to limit the sandblasting but thats hard to do during rush hour. I definitely never stay behind duallys. Those tires will hold boulders in between the tires that get stuck and then launch like missels

Yep I went full windshield coverage for that reason-- Who've you been using to replace it? dealer or safelite or?

Safelite is pretty much the only game in town out here, so it's been them. First replacement by a Safelite shop and they did a terrible job with a shitty aftermarket window, and scratched my A pillar, to boot. second time was at the dealership and I got OEM glass again

Thanks. Would probably use a dealer too.

My wrangler buddies have the same issue where I live. So I immediately added windshield protection film to mine when I got it. This is the DIY kit I used:

https://www.grab-gard.com/products/ford-bronco-windshield-protection-kit

I got quotes from installers in my area, but going with this DIY set was less than half the cost, and I didn't have to leave my vehicle with somebody. I think its the same film as they install in the shops. I've heard some people talk about zero deductible windshield insurance, but I called around and can't find anybody offering that in my state at a reasonable cost. The only company who quoted me for it, it was basically the cost of a new windshield every 9 or 10 months. I use mine as a daily driver, so it gets a fair bit of mileage.

Safelite just replaced my windshield on my driveway, and they scratched my pillars to f-ing hell. I'm on hold trying to get a hold of someone at Safelite.

Did you get any recourse? I fully intend to have them repair/paint my pillars. I waited well over two years for this car, and I'm not having a large corporation getting away with sending a 20 year-old inexperienced installer to swap a cracked windshield for bare-metal scratches.

Unreal. I'm soooo pissed right now.

I wish I was kidding about this, but this is exactly how it went down:

installer walks out to waiting room to tell me that the car is done, then tells me that "They had some problems getting the glass out and scratched the paint a bit down near the mirror"

I go out to look at it (objectively it's not that bad) and there's about a 1/2" long gouge through the paint to the primer, right behind the passenger mirror. I ask the guy what they're planning on doing about it, since he didn't deny responsibility or anything like that, and he then walks inside and gets a card for a mobile detailer that does some PDR on the side and goes "You can call this guy, and he'll come fix it for you, and we'll cover the cost."

me: "Ok, so you guys aren't going to set this up?"
them: "No, but like I said, we're happy to cover the cost"
me: "So i gotta do the legwork for your mistake, then pay for it, and hope you'll reimburse me?"
them: "....."

Drove home, called the guy, and was told that he was booked up to 2 months out, and he could 'maybe' get to it after that.

I ordered some touch-up paint and clear coat and fine point brushes the next day and just did it myself.

Fuck Safelite.

Great. Doesn't sound too encouraging.
They scratched mine (what I consider to be) pretty bad, and in 2 areas, never mind the area behind the top of the windshield that isn't visible from the ground.

This didn't happen to be the location around Pinnacle Peak and 19th ave by chance?

I’ve wondered how thin the bronco windshield is?
It sure looks thin once you get a crack.
I was painfully cautious about doing all I could to avoid rock chips, but to no avail, my windshield is now properly stress relieved with numerous chips and a 4 foot crack. Feels good not to care about chips anymore! Will wait until spring to replace it and will definitely avoid safelite.

Oh damn, didn't even realize you were local too. Nope, was down at the one at Chandler and Kyrene, but who knows how much those techs float around different stores.

Oh man, I just reviewed some camera footage from my Blink system, and its so much worse than I initially thought. Fucker bend my door hinges, now my door is rubbing the sill along the bottom. (BOTH sides!)

I'm going to start a new thread about this Safelite experience:
