Preface: I dont care that I get 19mpg. This is simply a thought exercise.

Would an air dam make a significant impact to highway mpg? If so I wonder if a detachable air dam could be made for the longer highway trips.

Air dams make marginal if any difference. Maybe 0.1 mpg on the wife's F-150. I removed it because she kept hitting parking blocks with it.

More of the Bronco's aerodynamics are above the bumper line. It would take a massive air dam to keep the air out from under it.

Don't they also serve a purpose of air flow in the engine bay? Or do you guys think it is strickly for mpg aerodynamics?

I'm thinking like a fan shroud, wher they help force air flow in a specific direction.
