After searching for solutions that didn’t break the bank (ie. $269 Ford Trail Armor 🙄) I decided to experiment with some Plasti Dip.
- Is it perfect.. no
- Did it cost $269.. no
- Did the pinch weld disappear.. yup

Disclaimer - would it wear down over time off-roading, probably. But for now, it works. Hope it’s helpful for anyone else out there

For sure, it’s pretty much a pavement princess at this point 🤣.. tires and lift are up next.

Rattle can from O’Reilly Auto Parts.
I’ve used the Dip Your Car cans before and the quality was definitely better but all in, happy with the result

Looks good and it won't trap moisture/promote corrosion of the pinch weld.

Thanks for sharing this. I just replaced the rock rails with the steps yesterday and the pinch welds are now driving me nuts. Living in the northeast, rust prevention is a priority so I didn't want to add anything that would likely rust quickly or apply something that would trap salt in that area causing the body to rust prematurely. I think that plastidip is a great solution and the best part is that if I change my mind, I can always just peel it off.

How did you protect the paint above?

I realize the step below isn't as crucial, being black and all.

I masked the underside of the rocker with blue painter's tape, slid half sheets of paper between the back side of the pinch molding and the rubber lip of the running boards, and painted the pinch weld with a brush and semigloss Rustoleum. That's the way they did it on cars back in the 1960's Came out pretty nice:
