I’ve got a 4 door badlands reserved, and I plan to get the 2.3 with manual. It would be nice to have both engine options, but I don’t NEED the 6 cylinder. Manuals are such a dying breed that I’m glad they are offering one at all. To me having the manual is more important than the more powerful engine.

I'm in the same boat. 7MT 2.7L would be amazing, but given the choice between a manual and a V6? Manual every time.

you definitely weren't a PA resident back then. that was one of the more stringent parts of the test.

I don't think we manual drivers can really blame the youth for not learning how to drive stick. When I look back on why I learned to drive stick it was because my parents were cheap and owned cheap cars. They weren't enthusiasts, just thrifty.

Basically everyone who was driving a stick because they are cheap now buys an automatic instead

Turned out that there were more cheap people than enthusiasts

i learned because we had a loaner car (triumph TR4) while my dad's car was in the shop (for a long time). got real good on the stick since if the TR4 stalled, it wouldn't restart and
had to pushed back home.

Really want the manual trans, what are everybody's thoughts on longevity of the 2.3 L with everyday highway driving, 20 K per year. Worried when I hit the 100K mark, I've only ever had 6 cyl engine cars, but have had good luck holding on to them for 8-10 yrs.

I assume they did at some point in the past, it was Ohio, and I don't believe any state dropped it because it was "hard." There are other ways to test that skill that don't exactly mimic parallel parking.

One example:

“We determined that some of the skills we were testing for were redundant,” says Buel Young, spokesman for the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration. “We looked at parallel parking, and then we looked at the reverse two-point turn. We were testing the exact same skill sets in each maneuver. It was determined we would remove one of those, and the one we removed was parallel parking.”
