So far, it’s been very easy. Carmax is willing to give about $2,000 more than my dealer and only about $1,000 or so less than what I expected if I did private party. I did offers online and also stopped by to get a verified appraisal so that I could use it to negotiate with the dealer. Unfortunately dealer wouldn’t budge, so Carmax it is.Curious what your Carmax experience is like if you don’t mind updating after you’ve traded it in. I was considering that route. I’ve only ever traded into the dealership I was buying my new car from. When I first ordered my Bronco I checked with KBB instant offer, Carmax, and Carvana, just to see what offers were out there for my car at the time. Carmax had the best. Has your dealership tried striking a trade deal?
The only difficulty so far is that an offer is only good for 7 days and I can’t trade in my truck until I can be certain on when we’d get the Bronco. So I’ll have to go through the process again now to get my new offer. They can’t extend it, unfortunately, since everything of theirs is systematized and they’re at the mercy of their own software/algorithms. Hopefully it reappraises at the same or above.
They do handle everything right there though, even if there’s still a lien on it. You walk right out with a bank note. I’ll probably (fingers crossed) be doing it in a couple of days, so I’ll let you know.
