Curious what your Carmax experience is like if you don’t mind updating after you’ve traded it in. I was considering that route. I’ve only ever traded into the dealership I was buying my new car from. When I first ordered my Bronco I checked with KBB instant offer, Carmax, and Carvana, just to see what offers were out there for my car at the time. Carmax had the best. Has your dealership tried striking a trade deal?
So far, it’s been very easy. Carmax is willing to give about $2,000 more than my dealer and only about $1,000 or so less than what I expected if I did private party. I did offers online and also stopped by to get a verified appraisal so that I could use it to negotiate with the dealer. Unfortunately dealer wouldn’t budge, so Carmax it is.

The only difficulty so far is that an offer is only good for 7 days and I can’t trade in my truck until I can be certain on when we’d get the Bronco. So I’ll have to go through the process again now to get my new offer. They can’t extend it, unfortunately, since everything of theirs is systematized and they’re at the mercy of their own software/algorithms. Hopefully it reappraises at the same or above.

They do handle everything right there though, even if there’s still a lien on it. You walk right out with a bank note. I’ll probably (fingers crossed) be doing it in a couple of days, so I’ll let you know.

Ditto, Carvana gave me the best offer so far, but hoping the dealer gives me a good deal on the trade as well as everything else
I’m wondering if they’ll match the offer? It would be much more convenient to trade in at the dealership like I’ve always done so that I don’t have to worry about finding a ride from the Carmax or Carvana drop off to the dealership and making sure the scheduling works out perfectly. But the CarMax offer was top of the range of my KBB estimate and almost $6000 more than Carvana, which is probably closer to what the dealer would offer. I’m still upside on my trade regardless, but every penny towards my down payment is worth it. I was also curious how to go about putting the profit from the trade that you would get from Carmax or Carvana towards your down payment on the bronco if you go directly from dropping your trade off to picking up your new vehicle. I assume they write you a check that has to be deposited into your bank account. I suppose you would just use your existing funds from your bank account and the check would replace those when it clears?

Thanks! That’s very helpful. I’ve read pretty good reviews overall for people that trade into those types of services, but not very good reviews for people that buy from them.

Were you given a certificate, and if so, what’s that all about? I was just reading about it for the first time in this thread.

Before I changed departments, I was in sales. CarMax used to offer a blank check that you could then write the dealerships name in the recipient line. I had a few customers do this at my dealer. But usually we would match or almost match CarMax, plus in AZ you get tax savings when you trade a vehicle in on the purchase of a new car.

I was given a certificate, but wasn't really informed as to why. I was just told I was eligible for a private buyer certificate, with amount depending on trim and features, but that amount wouldnt be certain until the vehicle arrives. It also has an expiration of 10/2/2023 so it's only valid for a few months. Other than that I'm not sure what it's for, and only found out because I specifically asked for it

If it’s for the 23MY transition, it will renew for one more quarter. They only are valid for three months then renew.

From what it seems like, its a MY transition offer. My order was submitted within the hour of order banks opening on 3/27 so I wasn't sure if that would even be eligible for the 23MY transition

I wouldn’t think so. Did they give you the program number? MY transition PO is 38644

38644 is the program number for the 23 MY transition private offer. Somehow they assume yours was ordered before the 2023 order banks opened up. Who knows? These guys are rock stars so there’s that!

I'm not gonna question it! They did thank me for buying another Ford and staying part of the "Ford Family" so maybe it's also some sort of loyalty credit? Either way I'll take it, let's just hope my dealer holds it up on their end

Thank you! Appreciate you taking the time to explain all of that.

It could be another offer but then it would have a different program number. How much did they say it was? You’ll be able to tell by that.
