Just did this today.
I removed the hanger from the pass side of the muffler and loosened up the muffler clamp, and then I was able to move the muffler around to put in the bolts

Apologies for the delay. 1/2x4” bolts worked without washers or moving the muffler.

I picked up my 2022 4D Badlands a week ago. I ordered the Curt hitch from etrailer, and made the mistake of assuming (I know) the 2021 kit would fit. The bolts are too long to insert between the muffler and the hitch/frame. I can get the furthest passenger side bolt in at an angle, but then it bottoms out against the bumper frame.

Before I send it all back to etrailer, has anyone run into this and had success with shorter bolts?

Everything else lines up, and there's a review on Curt's website that says the bolts are 1/2" too long, so I'm wondering if they had the same issue. I'm just using it for a bike rack, not towing.
Unless I am absolutely crazy, the Curt hitch I ordered for a 2021 Bronco, the holes didn't match up with my 2022 Wildtrak. I returned and ordered a RC hitch but now I need to remove the bumper for install which I really didn't want to do.

I installed the curt hitch. The bolts seemed too long but they will go through. One trick was to insert the bolts from the top of the muffler instead of angling up from the bottom. There was enough play that you could wiggle the receiver just a bit and they would eventually go all the way through.

The other way to do it is just remove the bumper and install the bolts with the nuts on the muffler side. It takes about 15 min to remove the bumper. Super easy.

Agreed. I picked up some 4” Grade 8 bolts from the local Ace and the fit perfectly.

I just installed one on my 22 sas OBX last week, and it was INCREDIBLY tight, I couldn't imagine how these bolts were going to go thru. I just kept wiggling and trying from all sorts of weird extreme angles while pushing and they eventually went in. Then you have to back the bolt out just to get the nut up there and threaded.

Just installed mine today. Wasn't too bad. The bolts were a bit long but got everything to fit fine with a little fenagling.

My question is. The instructions say to use a torque wrench but doesn't say how much to tighten to. Also I only have a bicycle torque wrench. So I just used a regular socket wrench and tightened as much as I could. Only using this for a bike rack not any serious towing so hopefully will be okay.
