USB-C connectors are especially susceptible to corrosion and debris causing connection problems. I'm astonished that the C variant has become the "accepted standard" (along with the "A") for smartphones, tablets, modems, portable radios, etc. for both power and data demands. The only way to keep them alive is to clean them properly. Careful and thorough cleaning is with possible with Isopropyl alcohol by experienced, patient hands and good eyes, but the contacts are extremely small, and alcohol (having a drying effect and harmful for some surfaces) is not a good long-term solution.
Periodic use of a proper cleaner & lube is a must for any USB-C connection!

I'm 95% certain this will solve your problem, if the fragile contacts themselves have not been damaged.
