I have a 22 Wildtrak 2 door Bronco with the plastic bumper. I am looking for a full skid plate package that works with this configuration and doesn’t require removing the recovery tow points. I plan on doing some light off-roading and would like more protection than the plastic skid plate on the Wildtrak.

Ford does not sell anything that works with the plastic bumper. Most of the 3rd party skid plates I have seen are for the 4 door or do not provide a good fit with the plastic bumper and recovery points.

Can anyone share what they have done with their 2 door? If you have pictures, that would be great as well. Thanks in advance!

There is a thread on here with more details, but we bought the Ford skidplates and then cut notches in the front plate for the [plastic bumper] recovery points - so far has worked out great.

Also, if I remember reading somewhere... @dgorsett retrofitted the engine plate & transfer case skid to the base plastic bumper and plastic bash, retaining the OEM recovery points. I've been highly considering going this route, since the two OEM pieces are super cheap -- $200 or so for both.

Check out Asfir, they have a full aluminum skid system, and u choose which bumper u have, and they send the correct front skid to match. I have their front skid, gas tank skid and rear shock skids and love them

Follow up: I did install the factory steel engine/front axle plate in lieu of the stock plastic one and installed a Ford transfer case plate with a homemade brace for under $200. I retained the plastic front 'bash plate' with my Blue Ox tow bar mounts in lieu of the factory tow loops, tow loops could be retained however.

I have since installed the Rough Country Hidden winch mount which comes with a nifty bash plate/fairlead mount. I had to modify the RC bash plate a bit for my Bule Ox set up but would work without mod with the tow loops. I also mounted sections cut from the stock plastic plate to fill outboard of the RC plate.

I had stated before that there was nothing important behind the stock plastic bash plate. But in fact the intercooler does hang down below the bumper a bit and I have seen photos of it getting trail damage. So I guess I'm glad to now have a metal plate.

BTW thesocalexplorer it looks like we have similar tastes in Broncos and the use thereof.

Appreciate the update! The RC bash & hidden winch mount looks great.

Agreed on our broncos, great to see a fellow Big Bend getting built up and driven in the wild
