Hello,
Hoping someone can share some good news because I'm worried I might have a bad 2.7 in the works... When it is cold out and I moderatly accelerate around 3-4k RPM I can hear a rattling coming from my exhaust. I always let off the gas right when I hear it and then its gone. I can then go pedal all the way down and the sound wont repeat itself. Just hoping this is normal and other people are experiencing the same.

When was your engine built? Better take a pic of the label now.

Both, once a month we get about $1 off at Kroger so I get regular then. The missus wont let me use the discount on premium lol

Either don't take missus when you fill at Kroger or get your own discount. Even cents off makes more sense on higher priced goods you might normally buy.

"Here, honey, use this coupon for half off a case of PBR even though you always drink Guinness "

Cold rattle can be from several disconnected sources
1. Turbo blowoff valve
2. Cold, thicker oil on startup to hydraulic lifters, but good thing here is no hydraulic lifters like found in a carburetor equipped V8
3. Dry lowered bearings at startup which is unlikely unless tolerances are too high due to wrong inserts on a "new" engine.

That it goes away is good, that Ford is probably going to high priority a service appointment at your dealer to leapfrog to get it looked at (just my guess at this point)

That intermittent noises never happen when a vehicle is at dealer is the chance we all take. But insist that service manager take it home overnight to replicate situation.

Check your exhaust hangers. The middle hanger on my exhaust was not attached causing the pipes to rattle against something intermittently. Hopefully it's something simple like that.

Did you ever figure out what this was? I have a terrible rattle on acceleration, dealer said it was normal but it has only gotten worse. I’m also in the “hot zone” with my engine build of July 1. I’ve been reading and watching for a while and came across this old thread today. Would love to hear what happened for you.
