2.7. About a week ago when I turned the car off l'd hear a loud squeal and my wife would complain of a melting or burning smell in the garage when she'd get home walking past it.

I got it in for service on Tuesday they were able to replicate the problem on Wednesday after understanding it needed to be driven at highway speeds to make the engine hot enough. The oil temperature gets up to about 212 degrees where my father 2.7 badlands gets up to about 190 degrees, To smell and squeal. After many dodging phone calls I learned they ruled out it being a belt and have been on the technical hot line and they are stumped as well.

My question is has anyone else had this issue or any idea what it could be?

My badlands 2.7 usually sits at about 210 ish but will spike to about 215 when using the turbo then cool right back down to 210 ish when coasting.

So interesting that the same motor can run at such a range of oil temperatures and it be “normal” although service did take note that the two in my family run so distinctly different.

Turbo Bearing after pressure loss? Oil Presser is lost when engine is shut off, The Turbo still spins after the engine is stopped. Oil leaking past the turbo bearing seal may be the source of the oil smell coming up thru the intake after the engine is turned off. Failing turbo is my quick guess. Just a thought. let us know if you get any other info.

Failing turbo was my thoughts too…dealer claims they are fine and nothing leaking out anywhere in the vehicle.

Update

Got the truck back this afternoon after being told a cooling line wasn’t fully seated. A new clamp was put on and they couldn’t replicate the problem after their fix. I drove it home and to no surprise it wasn’t fixed. I called as soon as I relized it they said “drive it all weekend and we will chat Monday morning and hopefully get you a loaner”…..

to be continued

So final Update

I just got the car back after the fixed a loose coolant hose on its last visit but didn’t seem to fix the issue. After a two week stay at the dealer they couldn’t replicate the problem. The best guess is the coolant leak was the smell and it dripping on a belt of some kind. When I returned the car for service it was the first time we’d seen rain in well over a month, and the ride to the dealer plus their test rides over the next few days that it continued to rain rinsed everything away.
